Diwali Fireworks

No issue about celebrating responsibly but some ****ing morons seem to see it as a competition to see who can launch the most nuclear tipped cruise missiles in an evening. To them I say **** off back to where the custom originated and leave the rest of us to have a peaceful evening.

Ja .... I dont know where these people get these rockets from .... but some went off close to our complex that sounded like god damn bombs.
 
Some of those fireworks are serious business, and in residential areas at 22H00+ on a Sunday evening. A lot of upset Diwali celebrators are accusing others of intolerance. Intolerance up to a point. Trust me, I'm in Pinetown and we hear it from all sides, If you have a view from Signal hill area you can see how extreme it is. Always reminds me of the wartime footage in Baghdad when the US & Coallition forces were at full scale attack. And yes even in my hood there are a lot of huge bangs going off, not little "tomb thumb" cracker bangs. They are enormous. I was in Germiston at college, at the time of the pre 1994 elections bombs went off. These crackers are not far off from that amount of sound. Solid thumps that resonate through the buildings. To me I would absolutely declare that an inconsiderate act by neighbors. Nothing about tolerance or lack of for religious festivals.

As for trying to police this... no ways, the scale of fireworks being released is in its 100's of thousands.
 
Been reading this forum for a while now.
There's always been a few posters with racist tendencies and cultural disregard.
They hate blacks, ANC, Muslims, Muslim countries, Hindus and Hindhu cultures.
Look at them in this thread hating fireworks.

They seem to suffer from a special kind of miserable.

lol .... this takes the cake so far I think. You dont like hearing bombs going off on your Sunday evening? RACIST AND ISLAMAPHOBE! Oh boy.

Problem is many people totally disregard the law & consideration for others, & when confronted try hide behind the veil of religion to justify their actions.
The law regards fireworks is very very clear.

Yes but there are exceptions on religious holidays and between 6 and 10pm.

There are no exceptions:

Was just saying this morning.
Closest I got to Diwali was a status update I saw on Facebook.

Don't recall hearing one firecracker going off.
Likely the area I reside in is just devoid of those celebrating the day.
 
I just don't get why I should tolerate something that is illegal? Where in law does it state that Hindus are exempt from the fireworks regulations no Dewali, or anyone else from the regulations on 1 Jan? It is not simply rude or selfish, it is illegal.

I don't mind Muslims celebrating their festivities, nor Hindus theirs. They tolerate me celebrating Christmas, so I don't mind them celebrating. I do mind, though, anyone breaking the law as part of their celebrations. This includes fireworks, drunk driving, music that goes on too late (not national law, city by-laws).

Or, maybe like me, you have folk in your area that obey the law.
There is a family at the end of my road that celebrated diwali. They had those "fountain" type fireworks that look pretty cool, not stupid "big bangs" and scud missiles being launched into the sky.

Everybody has to be allowed to celebrate & practice their own religion - rasta's included.
But it's when those celebrations cause nuisance & danger to the surrounding community, that they have to be put under tight control.

Perhaps yes, but also down in the Southern Suburbs - Diwali along with Guy Fawkes has really taken off at Sunrise Beach and Strandfontein Pavilion. Parents take their kids out there to set off fireworks and I think there's even a bit of a police presence sometimes.

City of CT had provided designated areas, that is probably one of them.
In those areas, the police have to be present.

No, they don't seem to suffer from a special kind of miserable, they don't abide people breaking the law to "celebrate" their religion. Its not allowed, therefore it needs to be stopped.

I am in complete agreement. This is actually no longer about tolerance or intolerance. They are breaking the law, period.

fireworks are a pain in the ass period. my neighbours invited us over to watch fireworks and not one of them made an exploding noise or left their yard
