If you read the thread and if you used some logic you'd understand that he doesn't have Hindu's in his neighborhood and nobody used fireworks in his area which we are lead to believe:rolleyes: So if he wants to do something that hasn't been done before than yes he should ask his neighbors

he isnt allowed to ask them to stop. Its a basic constitutional right. If his religion is rare but recognised then it would be the courteous thing to do and educate the neighbours but its not compulsory.

I highly doubt people need to be educated on diwali, christmas or ramadaan in south africa (those rich enough to live in suburbs)

Exaggerate how it's 10km+ away from me and loud to the dogs and I could hear them over my TV volume same when thunder comes from that side. I can ever hear the drag racers and trains hooting going past at 5km+ away so not impossible to hear thunder/fireworks.

I love fireworks and everything I even enjoy them at the Rugby stadiums and at the Royal show but those are for 15 mins or so and are done at a respectable time so don't disrupt anything.

As long as I keep my dogs inside they are fine, they also hate thunder when outside.

I didnt say its impossible. I said you exaggerating on the intensity of the sound.

Sure if its 10 kilometers away you should have 10 seconds to press record ;)

lol once i measured the distance of this insane looking lightning bolt it took 30 seconds for the thunder to reach me .... it was like weak fart lmao

anyways of to write my thesis now >.< **** is complex. Lol right now im actually defining the properties of sound in liposomal formulation so I know some stuff on sound :D

Had one of those lightning bolts the other night was so bright and everything and amazing yet had the most disappointing sound ever, yet the boring ones make big sounds :p.

Prohibited are any fireworks larger than 25mm x 4mm (the so-called 'lady cracker'), anything incorporating uncontrolled flight, Roman candles, any firework not made with 'black powder' and anything that 'makes a bang'.

The public is reminded that fireworks in South Africa are controlled in terms of the Explosives Act, 1956 (Act No 26 of 1956) and in addition, the Metropolitan and local authority have issued a set of by-laws restricting the use or discharge of fireworks in certain areas.

All Station Commissioners
Members of the community need to know that it is unlawful for any person to use or discharge any fireworks -
- in any building or any public thoroughfare
- in any other public place or resort, except with the prior written permission of the local authority.
No person shall use or discharge any explosive, firearm or similar device which emits impulsive sound, or allow it to be used or discharged, if it may cause a noise or nuisance except with the prior consent in writing of the local authority concerned and subject to such conditions as the local authority may deem necessary.

distance dude. The more medium sound travels in the less intense it becomes

crackers are dumb .... I do not like crackers it goes bang. WOW so amazing that is. :erm:

as for the rockets ... yeah rockets are dangerous but they usually FLY HIGH up and are small and make little noise. The noise making displays are the HUGE ones which come in the launchers or a battery. The law is pretty clear on that too

problem with the "rockets", they can go spectacularly wrong if not placed firmly in the ground.
I have seen them being lit, then flopping over in an unintended direction & taking off

eerrr im no expert in lightning (I know light though its used in analysis often) but I would just say the possible reasons are:

1) you just not seeing intense lightning close by
2) you have a better view at a distance to observe the lightning bolt. (would also depend on the type of lightning you are seeing)
3) the bolt is gone by the time you look since you so close

thats what I think. Could be different reasons I do not know. I love how the Cape Town people die for that fairy lightning they get. Like 3 minutes and 4 bolts and they shivering in fear ROFL

indeed. I was nearly taken out by one like 10 years ago .... wouldve been an epic headshot that. Though thats the problem people are too stupid to read the instructions. you have to have a pipe or something to stand the rocket in (a cool drink bottle wont cut it) and point it away from everything etc etc

People are also irresponsible in handling fireworks. You cant defend or deny that.

Though its not only hindus that burst fireworks on diwali .... lots of other people do it because fireworks are on sale this time of the year. In my personal experience most firework injuries are due to stupidity and most of the time its not hindus (im generalising of course)

maybe because kids are getting hold of it and the parents dont know or people are lighting up drunk

My sister lives in CPT .... I die laughing when she tells me how CPT peeps run and hide (like dogs on diwali :p)

ai I dont live in PMB that place is faulty... I worked there I nearly die why? because PMB doesnt understand how to use the green arrow on robots. The green arrow will come on saying you can go right (ie indicating your right of way) except its green on the other side as well :wtf:
 
Have to admit I liked the "He isn't allowed to ask them to stop, its their constitutional right" crap. Trust me, I can and did ask them to stop, they told us to get knotted, we called the cops, they fined them and made them stop.

Disturbing the peace of the neighbourhood, and discharging illegal fireworks is not a constituional right, oh and RiaX, my rough description of Diwali may not be 100% accurate, but fek off big rockets have less than sweet buggerall to do with Diwali.
 
Fireworks have been part of Diwali since pretty much since fireworks have been invented thanks to their close trade relations to China. Fireworks ingrained in the culture for over 1000 years hence the entitlement for fireworks during this time
