Its simple Common Sense:
1-At a scale of 3 Billion humans on planet you can do a lot to make life good for all. Because theres enough resources most choices can work as suggested.
2-At a scale of 7 Billion plus, its a complete other story. Now we enter the stage where the Earth does not have enough resources enough to promise 7 Billion plus they going to have a reasonable life, let alone a good life=The last 30 years since 1992 has proven that already for all to see. Only the Ultra Rich and the Upper Corrupt has good lives, the rest suffer in stages.
The thing is Electricity is as we live today a Basic Resource(Man Made), like Water, Oil, etc. Now since 1992 "Digita:" has come along, hopelessly opertunistic, overvalued Fools Paradise, jacking up the cost and waste of resources hugely, we going to pay dearly for that mistake.
If basic resources are relatively expensive, it effect everything upwards and chew into and destrot monetary systems from the inside out. The human race NEVER experienced this before in history, there were aklways less humans chasing for resources in a closed system like Planet Earth, therefore the ignorance.
Renewables are based from Weather conditions, Day/Night, and its not centralised, meaning huge duplication of resources, also it may be cheaply presented and promised initially, but whos going to maintain it after a few years and at what costs, and how difficult to keep up a standard with it spreaded all over the place(Physical Polution we not seen before either). These structures will change hands as they get shook off by initial installers like 2nd hand vehicles for others to put up with the problems, and on top of that our new god "Digital & Internet" is totally dependant on good stable power supplies right through from AC to DC, and thats where your money is going to rely from in future....Big problem.
Renewables are good under certain selective circuimstances, but carrying the whole globe, I think that is a pipe dream playing out.
Energy is not the place to play with, and so is water and oil.
