Do you bite your nails?

Well if they're short there is no underside for dirt and germs to hide in like with long nails.

If you bath everyday and wash your hands everyday and have a problem like me and bite your nails almost everyday I can guarantee your nails will be cleaner than your average Joe.

Why should woman have/not have long nails anyway?

EDIT: It's interesting to note nail biting is more common in people with eating disorders than those without.

I am a woman, why should I have short nails permanently?

Because it makes sense. So of course you wouldn't.

:p

(I am adding the above smiley under protest. I don't mean to offend anyone, so don't get the wrong idea, but I do think that women do some weird, weird things)

my nails are hard enough to allow me to do all house hold chores. i also work with PC's & printers.

any guy that tells you they are not self defense weapons are lying. mine have worked well the one occassion that they were needed.

i don't need to get gel or other types of false nails added. seldom use cutex

:D

I don't work with PCs and printers for a living but I have worked on them before also do household chores all with very short nails, so I don't get that.

Using them as self defense? Well I guess that is quite a good use. :D

My girlfriend has very short nails, not from biting like me but she cuts them short all the time so the edge of her nails are about maybe 2 or 3mm long. How someone can have normal nails and then still 1 to 1.5cm added is quite scary.

& all the nail bits that your digestive system does not process?

Household: most people find their nails break due to chemicals & even getting caught/torn.

My nails are so hard that unless I soak them they DO NOT bend, where other peoples nails are flexible.

Selfdefense: they drew blood through denim.

I used to bite my nails as a kid but my ocd has evolved. I used to bite my lips, sometimes till it bled. I used to bite it and the loose skin that was hanging was bitten and that is what caused the bleeding. Then, next evolution was inside of the lip. Now its not so bad, I rather start saying a prayer subconsciously and that's my osd gone good.

Can also be attributed to nerves... I used to, then I got braces and that made it difficult to bite my teeth, so i stopped, and I haven't done since.

Most of it stays inside you.

that pic you added: not long enough for my nails, soft, thin, not cleaned...

Do you even know what you're talking about? A lot of food you eat stays in your intestines for a while. Have you ever heard of Fiber?

Next you're going to tell me not to swallow bubblegum because it will stay in my stomach forever

your body does not digest nails & hair.

you mentioned gum, not me.

i've never heard of anyone with gum piling up in them. i have heard of people with nails & hair in them...

I got that the first time so what actually is your point?

YUK

also IMO. A guy must have short neat well kept nails. bitten nails do not present well. Also tells me a lot of the person I am speaking to.

If it's a client I will keep quiet. If it's a supplier, friend, family, other stranger I will find it very hard to actually speak to them with respect.

Do you know that you get indigestible fiber aka Dietary Fiber so I really don't see your point.

Also a person judging another person by them biting their nails says way more in my opinion.

Who says a guy must have short nails why can't they have long nails? Why must woman have long nails and not short nails. Where does the respect even come into the equation

Either you're a troll or a bigot. As I really don't see what nail biting can tell you.

A guy can have long nails, not a worry to me. Same as a woman can have short nails but they must be well kept.

Unkept nails speak a lot.

neat well kept short or long nails say a lot too...

& no I am neither of those. What do you think of people who arrive at work in dirty un-ironed clothes? (same principal applies)

Wow you're full of it.

Nail biting is considered an impulse control disorder in the DSM-IV-R while the ICD-10 classifies it as "other specified behavioural and emotional disorders with onset usually occurring in childhood and adolescence".

Where does un-ironed clothes fall under again? How you can even say it's the same principal is really laughable. Even after saying you never bite your nails before, so you are also ignorant it seems.

Also I try not to judge people based on how they look as there could be MANY reason why the person looks the way they do. No electricity to iron, running late, spouse died, children murdered who the hells knows. Judging a person on how they look is really ridiculous. :erm:

it's not a habit that can't be ''un-learnt''

if things like that happened to my friends/family i would not be going to work for at least a few days.... so a really silly thing to say.

Bottom line is I dislike it badly. It is a sign of nervousness as per your quote which to me speaks of insecurities.

That means the person would have to work on kicking their bad habit & would probably have to work on their insecurities to ensure that they can get rid of the habit for good.

I can understand a teenager being full of insecureties but they out grow that leaving the habit to remain..

As I said ignorant.

Basically I'm wasting my time responding to you as you really have no idea what you are talking about.
