do you donate blood?

Only started recently, they where at the shops in a tent and my youngest asked why I don't donate. I didn't have any answer for her so just went, donated about four times so far.

When they put the needle in, it felt like my arm was on fire, they removed the needle and couldn't get the bleeding to stop at first.
After about what felt like forever the bleeding stopped but the pain was intense. I've got a real high pain tolerance and this actually felt like my arm was on fire from the inside.
That stopped after about another 5 minutes and I sat there for a bit. After I left and was getting off the escalator I just collapsed. Someone helped me back to the centre where I stayed until I was 100%.
Never again after that and I got medals from them, had a big dinner about ten years ago as well.

I passed out at a CT when they did the drip installation on... both bloody times. Either they the thickest needle they have for that iodine or whatever injection. But to add my veins are shot due to chemo treatments. Burt a vein while they did the contrast on a CT Scan.

And back to the OP’s question, no I can’t donate blood. Low blood counts and cancer.

Had a liver resection last week and they got two units of blood ready for incase. Pissed my eyes out for some reason as seeing the box on my bed just cracked my mental state.
But did not need the blood.

But still want to thank the people donating blood. Just sorry they waste precious blood on scum like politicians.

Free no, blood needs to be transported and stored in a very particular manner, so absolutely there are substantial costs involved.

unfortunately as supply still out weighs demand cost will be high, also collection, testing takes time and money if Im not mistaken that alone comes to about 3K. blood doesn't just come out of donor and into recipient ,dont want donor to end up with any diseases.
i think its like less then 1% of the population that actually donate and the amount of blood needed per day out weighs the collection. So honestly weather you donate or not wont affect the price, but if more people donate maybe it will.

I also got the SMS and was determined to go - then totally forgot. Someone convinced me to check out all the fallen trees in Eden so I left home before 4pm and headed that way. Thankfully I spotted the blood guys at the church and went after my ride. Was a bit rushed and told them my pressure would be high, and so it was 140/100. Really klapped it hard.

I once had low iron and asked them if it was because I drank too much and they said no, drinking improves iron - works for me :thumbsup:
 
I used to, religiously, but they don't want my gay blood anymore..
 
Used to, until recently some idiot couldn't locate a vein to draw blood from... I couldn't use my arm, the whole area was blue for week. Never again!
