Having a couple of beers does not equal being drunk. I have my FA with me 24/7, even when having a couple of beers.

Most, as in 90% of FA owners are extremely responsible people and wont even get drunk or tipsy for that matter whilst carrying their FA.

Regarding the safety of your children around firearm, I would suggest you familiarise them with firearms from a young age. Show them, let them touch it and explain that under no circumstances are they ever allowed to touch one without you or your wife / partner being with them.

I believe this to be best practice as I know I will not be around always and that when my son goes to a friend or plays in a park and comes across a firearm they will not touch it but would rather call an adult.

I would rather let them look and feel in my presence than them being curious and doing it themselves and causing a accident some day.

The above should obviously be done safely and taking all safety measures into consideration.

If you in Cape Town and want to go to the range or take your children, wife or partner let me know. I obviously wont bring beers.

I am familiar with guns (revolvers, pistols, rifles) but would never allow one into my house; unless, maybe, it was a rifle with the bolt removed. Kids are too goddamn curious, and curiosity leads to death.

This is why I don't drink - always with my kids (single parent) + 99% the designated driver + carry 99% of the time = alcohol is a non-negotiable.
(i make up for it with stupid jokes)

That is exactly why I have one.

I'm not Chuck Norris and have no illusions or inclination to take on multiple individuals trying to protect my girls.
A firearm is nothing but a tool that equalizes that situation.

Safety wise both my kids know what a firearm is and that they are not allowed to touch it except with my permission and under supervision.
(same as for powertools, knives, chemicals, electrical plugs, soldering iron, dangerous items that you would find around a normal house)
The FA is either on my person under my direct control or it is "safe" (locked away/secured)

If anything my girls would be safer around fire arms as they know how to handle one safely in case of extreme emergency.

Ruger doesn't do a PPK copy. You mean a Luger? Hungarian FEG/Luger? PA63 etc
Ruger's 9mmK would be an LCP..also very nice but unrelated to the Walther. Anyways...whatever works for you is good.

If memory serves me - it was the Luger M380 that was similar in looks to the PPK

I have a friend who has since moved to NZ, but his kids were all firearm proficient although they would not go near the firearms unless instructed to or (as trained) if there was danger. He has a video of his daughter in a mock drill running down the passage, grabbing and cocking the gun and pointing it towards the doorway. Her actions, speed and firing stance will put most people to shame.

You are allowed to carry on a sports license.
The use of a FA in self-defense situation, whether the FA is licensed under S13, S15 or S16 is considered a lawful use of the FA.

I have never felt uncomfortable drinking with my gun or being with people armed and drinking. I grew up in a farming community and till recently still owned a family farm. EVERYONE was carrying ALL the time. People who can handle themselves don't use their firearms in an argument or a fist fight. It's people who can't handle themselves in a one on one that would pull a weapon. You will never be at a braai or gathering at a farm and not have at least 90% of them carrying :D
