Not according to everyone... I know of people who used it and the prices were pretty much the same.

Uber algorhythmically sets prices based on usage and propensity to buy a ride. So if they see a pattern in your usage it is likely that they will drive up the price as long as you keep buying the rides.
Total hogwash. Not sure how you got to this, ive spend far more than R20k in uber rides between a set location I travel every other day and so far even with petrol prices going up my uber ride cost the same since the first time I used Uber to this location. I have similar results to other locations I dont frequent as often. If your "theory" held up, I would have been charged double or tripple to the most frequent location by now.
Same.
FYI - it went okay - as many have said - the driver was with BOTH Uber and Taxify, so it's not like you get anything different. Ride was free as it was my first one, so no idea if it is cheaper or more expensive! Certainly the quote is lower than Uber, but as other have said you can't be sure if they are 'low balling'. Certainly with Uber generally the quote is pretty accurate - in fact when the airport is involved, I think it's always exact?
Estimates right now from home to work:
Taxify: R95-125
Uber: R128
So for me - they both have the same drivers, both have the same app basically (very hard to distinguish). Both over-promise with pictures of cars right next to you, until you ask for when then magically they are all "3 minutes away" which stays at "3 minutes" as the driver doesn't move for 5 minutes... and then he turns the wrong way twice and you eventually get a car in 15 mins!
So much of a much-ness for me!
This thread has made me download Taxify... having been a very loyal Uber user - will have to tell you how it goes![]()
I don't think it's more for repeated trips but the pricing does vary because I've experienced where it cost less for the same tripSo I have used taxify twice now.
Good: They have surge pricing, but not nearly as bad as Uber. Uber wanted to charge me R390 for a trip home yesterday when it normally costs R150 or so. Taxify charged me R160. So, it is nice having the choice, because you can check the Uber price/surge level and if you don't like it, request a taxify. Choice is good.
Bad: They still use a pricing model similar to what uber used to use. This morning, Uber quoted me R180. So I was like, nah that is too much, and tried taxify. I forgot about how the pricing works, so when he wanted to follow his taxify GPS which told him to take the highway, I said no problem. The problem is that the highway route is faster in time but further in distance, so the trip cost me R230. In future, I will instruct the driver to take the shortest route to my destination in kilometre terms.
Also interesting: why did Uber want to charge me R180 today? There was no surge pricing in effect. Someone in this thread mentioned that they charge you more for repeated trips, I'll see if this is true. Luckily taxify is a good backup.

Maybe for you but I have experienced other wise, mine have always been within a range and only changes when it surges. It is absolutely true, I have experienced it during a long period without my car. I have also read about it elsewhere. Basically they use ML algorithms to apply opportunistic pricing.
Hopefully this puts it to rest, I was slightly off but I'm sticking to my guns that if you ride repeatedly they'll up the price each time you accept it: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-on-predicting-how-much-you-re-willing-to-pay
