That was my mom for most of my younger years, she is now on 2 packs a day.

I am 1960s vintage and I know quite a few friends that never smoked more than a little
But far in the majority smoked quite a bit

My parent's generation... they all did it...

My view is that you can't risk getting sick in this country, specially with the NHI on its way.

Woke up with a moerse babelaas one morning, went outside to have a smoke and nearly painted the stoep with the previous night's garage pie. Told my wife "Dis nie meer lekker nie", and I haven't touched a cigarette since. On the 25th of November this year, it will be 10 years.

That's about the last time I had a garage pie as well.

I stopped 26yrs ago, never had a puff since, funny thing is I sometimes dream that I'm smoking again and wake up pi$$ed off that I succumbed, only to realise I was dreaming.

Never smoked in school or the army and glad I never started.. Then I was 35 and my dad died of lung cancer. That was an eye-opener..

Other: aside from the usual experimentation in high school I've never been a smoker

I do enjoy the occasional (like 1 or 2 per year) good cigar however, doubly so back when all bars reeked of cigarettes and I would chase all the smokers out of there by lighting up a cigar

my life insurance broker told me I'm not a smoker though, so I will take his word for it, I disclosed my occasional cigar habit on the application form and he crossed it out

If you smoke a ham hock, you preserve it.

Same with your lungs.
