I have never used anything else but Outlook, Gmail seem seems to clatter my inbox with rubbish and keep bringing back emails I have deleted. Microsoft Outlook is the way to go
 
Yes i do. Love its integration with other Microsoft products eg. Onedrive and 3rd party applications such as Wunderlist.
 
only at work, but often wondered if Thunderbird will do the same job, and its free?

one of these days I might load my gmail onto it and see how it goes.

I used Thunderbird on my previous machine that had Ubuntu installed. It does pretty much the same job, as well as Outlook can do it, it just doesn't look as pretty. With a little extra work, you can make it look nicer.
