Yeah look, I worked in the fresh produce industry supplying software to the markets for 12 years. I have been at every market in SA many times over and if you saw the conditions that fruit and vegetables live in then you would wash them for sure.Poll added.
The same reason you’d generally wash fruit or veg before eating, I guess. To prevent any possible contaminants on the shell from falling into the cracked egg, or something.
No. our eggs are pasteurized, so it should be relatively bacteria free. Some other countries don't.
Nulaid has acquired pasteurised egg brand, Safe Eggs, South Africa’s only pasteurised eggs and which have two major advantages over normal shell eggs.
Yup. This random text just stuck in my head:
Might just be nonsense. Either way, don't really like the egg-white texture and taste raw anyway.
/yes, I’m expecting all the double entendres.
On a recent episode of 90 Day Fiance, Natalie (from the Ukraine) was washing eggs before use which Mike (American) found perplexing.
Natalie : In my country we wash eggs.
Mike : Over here we don’t.
I’ve always washed eggs before use but this got me searching for more info. Apparently eggs have a protective membrane (cuticle) over the shell which is why they can be kept unrefrigerated. In countries like the US, eggs are pre-washed, which removes this membrane and thus need to be kept refrigerated to prevent contamination.
Some sources do not recommend washing eggs before use since eggs are porous and washing them can end up pushing bacteria into the eggs.

Do you wash your eggs or crack them straight out of the carton?
A bigger question is did you notice the look of abject horror in her face when she saw the manufactured home that she would now have to call home?
The even bigger question is why would anyone wilfully watch that junk?
Isn't TLC the network mostly watched by those who watch Jersey Shore?
I spray mine with sanitizer... (is what i'm sure some of you believe I would do!!)
Agreed.Probably not considering Jersey Shore was on MTV. Although I haven’t watched JS and besides 90DF there isn’t really anything else I watch on TLC. You should try it, it’s hilarious. Trashy, definitely. But hilarious.
