Good thing our eggs aren’t refrigerated. You’ll just have people putting them in their trolleys, pushing them all over the shop for the next hour only to change their mind at the end and leave them on the magazine rack where they’ll spend the rest of the day before being returned to the fridge.

If you are American, then yes, they are washed at "the egg factory thing", but then you have to keep them below a certain temperature, since washing removed the protective waxlike layer as explained.

If you are South African, no, they are not washed at "the egg factory thing".

They’re not washed but dirty eggs should be scrubbed or sanitized at “the egg factory thing” as per link in the OP.

I’ve encountered a variety of eggs depending on the brand. Some covered in poop and feathers whilst other brands have been spotless.

Technically they should all be clean since they’re Grade A eggs but I guess this isn’t strictly adhered to.

I have a friend who washes bananas and oranges before she peels them. I'll find out about the eggs, have never noticed

In the middle of winter she will apply sunscreen to her arms and face, then put on a long-sleeve blouse and a doek

She saw my daughter walking barefoot in the street and freaked out

I have never washed the packaging that comes with produce, so I won't start washing egg shells until I start eating egg shells.

When I wake up and want breakfast, I want breakfast ASAP. The last thing I want to do is give my morning eggs a spa treatment.

Do you not rinse a can before drinking directly out of it?
 
Seriously folks, if a little dirt is on the egg and you're that paranoid, just wash it quick before you crack it open but don't do anything before then.

And shame to those who chuck their egg shells, they great for the garden.

Kosmik's food cycle

Eat food including eggs - left over scraps get fed back to chickens - chickens poop and mash soil - enriched soil goes back into garden to grow veg and fruit - veg, fruit and eggs go back into kitchen to make food........ rinse and repeat.

That cycle saves me a ton of money. Ever seen how much Durban charges for refuse/blue bags? My scraps, garden cuttings, everything goes in the hutch.
