Doctors face harsh rule on return to SA

Anyone who voluntarily comes back to practice medicine in the sh*thole after studying abroad should get an auto pass if they're qualified ..... it's not like this place has an overabundance of doctors, durr :rolleyes:
 
LOL. Is nobody wondering why these kids are going to Cuba and China to study medicine with bursaries that could fund 50 kids locally? Also keep in mind, there IS space in local institutions to accommodate these kids. I wouldn't let any of these doctors practice on me.

Just another armchair expert I presume..


Its entirely possible to be a good doctor who did happen to study in Cuba/China and then came to work here.
SA is known to fix these guys up, doctors from all over the world get trained here and come out better for it.

Fresh off the boat is a different story though. Mind you - you get senior specialists in European countries with less experience than junior doctors in SA.

I know where they studied and even where they did their Zuma year.

I knew the Dr who operated on me and I knew the Dr, on first name basis, who delivered my child!

I heard too many stories about our "drs" studying in Cuba!

I don't just make an appointment at a random dr, that would be really silly!

Chinese doctors only allow 1.2 billion to live over 75 years old. Cubans live until 80. How bad can they really be?

I’ve seen massive blunders from good European doctors, you can’t really say that because x has been trained here or there, he’s a good or bad doctor.

He takes an appointment.

When he has a car accident and is unconscious, his subconscious takes an appointment with an approved doctor that he knows on a first name basis.

They need to first practice in this ****hole to earn the experience that makes them valuable enough to go elsewhere as the article clearly indicates. The ruling is obviously unfair and should be challenged

But they're not being allowed to take the exam to practice in SA -

The regulations state that returning doctors must complete an internship in the country in which they studied, before they sit for their HPCSA board exams.

The doctors said it wasn’t possible to complete internships in the country of study in some countries, as they didn’t allow foreign graduates to intern because of work permit issues.

That's what I'm taking issue with, these folks have gone abroad and studied and come back to their country but can't get internships here ......

You can, its called racial profiling. Only white, North American, or Western European standards are good enough for some people.

Did you know that quality of doctors and the healthcare system is but ONE of the many factors that influence life expectancy?

That said, I know most doctors are crap. Hell you only need 50% to pass (correct me here if I am wrong). I just would just trust a doctor less to practice on me, who couldn't get admitted to any of our institutions and went to a third world country on a questionable government bursary.
 
This rule is problematic for students who aren't dark enough to get into medical school in SA.
They're better off staying in their country of study since most countries allow students to convert to residents after graduation.
