Doctors face harsh rule on return to SA

Chinese doctors only allow 1.2 billion to live over 75 years old. Cubans live until 80. How bad can they really be?

I’ve seen massive blunders from good European doctors, you can’t really say that because x has been trained here or there, he’s a good or bad doctor.

Chinese herbs, Rhino horn... Homeopathic medicine..

/Run for the hill.

I honesty doesn't care if its a good qualification. I like a bit of an older doctor though. Seen a bit more than just books :o
Problem with the situation to me is why only these two countries?

I have a medical aid thanks! Never had to deal with "Dr's" who "studied" in China/Cuba!

My medical aid paid for the reattachment of my finger at Olivedale Hospital (private, netcare) where the casualty doctor who did the handywork was indeed Cuban. Get your prejudiced head out of your ass!

You must really be the only person still alive to talk of his encounter with a Cuban doctor.

Lucky you!

He takes an appointment.

When he has a car accident and is unconscious, his subconscious takes an appointment with an approved doctor that he knows on a first name basis.

Let me rephrase. If I have a choice and the means, I will not want a Dr who studied in Cuba or China to work on me or be my Dr.

I rather want someone who studied in South-Africa, whatever University that my be!

But they're not being allowed to take the exam to practice in SA -

That's what I'm taking issue with, these folks have gone abroad and studied and come back to their country but can't get internships here ......

"The regulations state that returning doctors must complete an internship in the country in which they studied, before they sit for their HPCSA board exams.

The doctors said it wasn’t possible to complete internships in the country of study in some countries, as they didn’t allow foreign graduates to intern because of work permit issues."

This is what is needed. They don't have it so they cannot write exam.

If you cannot get it in the country you are studying then why DAFACK are you studying there, geez!

Get with the program or GTFO! Easy as that.

No racism, not race profiling. No discrimination. Just do your internship in the country you studied in.

I would like a competent doctor, wherever he studied, whatever his nationality.

I've had two pretty bad doctors who studied at UKZN and UP in the recent year, them studying in SA or not means nothing.

What is wrong with Cuban doctors if you don't mind...?

I know a Dr who studied in Egypt, I will go to him anytime.
