Documentaries

The Social Dilemma on Netflix is pretty fun...a mix of documentary and re-enactment to illustrate the points being made.

Should be recommended viewing, imo.

I am in two minds over the documentary, not something I am willing to debate here in detail. Is it worth a watch, yeah, sure, but there are misconceptions or can I say selective criticism? The politics angle, people have been propagating since the day they could communicate with each other, but with media and the advancing mediums it has accelerated and I have been saying this in most political threads that the public opinion is many a time manipulation. Those who are advocate against the dangers posed by social media… don’t tell me that they don’t leverage analytics.

Anyway. People should watch it.

you'd be perfect as a misinformation bot on Twitter...you said effectively nothing yet still managed to make me angry that I clicked on the alert.

:p

I'm on the fence with this, not about the abuse but about all the personalities. They don't seem convincing.......

Out and about on the high seas. Entertaining though the history is so recent that it will all be very familiar.

Russia & China has always been using asymetric warfare..... how did 2007 change anything other than public discovery?

Documentaries were my favourite genre up until about 3 years ago. It used to be that I could watch documentaries on any subject and be captivated. The genre has become so saturated with k@k over the last couple of years that even stuff that I am really interested tends to be hit and miss but still rank highly wrt reviews and such.

That being said, I have enjoyed 90% of the recommendations in this thread that I have managed to get around to watching. Is my only go-place for documentaries left really...

That started a decade ago.... I learn more from mainstream official youtube channels than almost any documentary these days. The Hoover Institution channel with the Uncommon Knowledge yearly series alone was an unexpected explosion of intellectual boundaries with people like Kotkin, Hanson, Sowell and so on.

Gone are the days except for a few exceptions of really GOOD documentary series.

ATM most Documentaries being released are political weapons either for or against Trump..... the dude's ego must be doing very well with all that attention.

People have simply stopped even trying to be objective and started being activists instead of teachers. Long format uncut interviews are the only really educational media left assuming both the interviewer and interviewee are not activists. There is also the Teaching Company seminars but that requires either piracy or serious money.
