Does anyone else no longer enjoy gaming?

Honestly, there are so many great games out these days, but I just can't get into them.

The Witcher 3, Far Cry Primal, Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, Watch Doges 2 etc.
I recently played through the FF13 trilogy cause it was 50% off on steam, and as a FF fan, I found it okay.

These games just no longer captivate me and I get bored so easily, even the ones I finish, I do so begrudgingly. I can't remember the last time a games story really made me go 'wow I want to learn more about this or read up on it online to get more fun facts or lore/backstory'.

The same applies to the mechanics of a lot of games, I feel it's repetitive. Honestly the only thing decent in games to me lately are the Graphics and the Soundtracks.

I also feel like games can't keep my attention anymore, I'll play for 20-30 minutes, then pause and go on my phone doing whatever.

Where are the days where we would replay a game multiple times just for additional endings or different cutscenes/to find out what would have happened if I did x instead of y. Or playing a game as a stealth character instead of a melee brute this time? I just don't have the motivation to do that or the enjoyment. Maybe it's age, but I remember many games from my teenager years that I would replay the **** out of just because I had more drive to play it and legitimately woke up wanting to play.

I find myself playing a lot of Rocket League, because I can play two games (10 minutes) and then ****off and do something else.

Anyone else feel the same? I think the last game I really, really enjoyed was FF-X. Even Skyrim, I spend more time modding the god damn thing than playing it.

The feeling is mutual unfortunately.

I think it's because a lot of games are just much of the same, put together slightly different every time.

One of the reasons why I purchased the entire C&C bundle from ORIGIN for R50 last night. Going old school, none of this in-game micro transactions BS.

I'm the same haven't played much games for past year. I used to be excited to go home and play online but now I couldn't be bothered. Would rather watch tv. I used to plan online games on a Sunday and lie to friends to say I'very got plans. Now I can't wait for 8pm movie. Wonder why the sudden change

There's a name for this phenomenon: growing up.

Mix one part 'getting a life' (e.g. a love interest, real friends and a career) with one part financial responsibility ("it costs how much????"), sprinkle with a little time poverty (chilling on couch > fighting for life in Nazi Germany yet again) and bake in the heat of wisdom ("maybe unlocking ALL the trophies won't make me cool after all").

Tastes like winning.

Stay away from Western "AAA" and you'll be better for it. Indies and obscure Japanese developers are where'll find more enjoyment.

The problem with big budget games, is because they're big budget. They have to be "safe" and appeal to the biggest audiebce so get watered down, and all feel the same after a while. Especial since most casual and "dudebro" gamers don't give two ****s about a story. As long as they blow **** up.

Yup - I simply cannot enjoy any of the games I try. Managed to get through the Witcher 3, as I know, theoretically, what an amazing game it is, but I just for the life of me could not really buy into its majesty.

There is one game, however, that I've been playing since 2014 which gives me a thrill of anticipation every goddam time I fire it up and is, frankly, the only game I need, and that game is Path of Exile.

The only problem is that it has leagues, which have bloody gaps between them, which is when I turn to other games, which just bore the **** out of me, no matter how hard I try to enjoy them. Luckily there's a new league starting tomorrow!

Same. I've played like 20% of each of the AAA recent released games.

Started replaying old games, Star Wars games etc

Just remodded GTA V.

The games I enjoy are mostly old school. Like Age of Empires 2, Anno 1602, Civilization 4 & 5, and Starcraft 2. Every so often I'll do some time on Far Cry 2 and Serious Sam. They never tire for me. Just rotate through the same old... rinse and repeat :)

Jir, and here I thought I was the only one......thought I was spiralling into a fit of depression or something. Last couple of months I would install and uninstall within a matter of minutes. Only games that I feel like playing nowadays is something casual. nd I was a heavy gamer since the mid 80's.
Last couple of months, it seems like I find myself more and more wonder in the kitchen and talking to the wife or sitting with the kids and getting more involved with them. Even took up jogging with my eldest daughter. Farkity-fark

AEDIT: And not just games, tech stuff I used to love and pre-bought is a drag these days.

I'd say look into "indie" games (and I say the word indie loosely) a lot of games that branch out from your typical AAA games are indie now days.

The problem is that we're spoilt for choice. Back in the 90's you'd get a good game every couple of months, which would tide you over until the next big release.

These days big budget and good games are released on a weekly basis, which makes it hard to decide what to spend your time on. So, if you're like me, you end up buying them on sales because of FOMO, but ultimately never end up playing it.

Months later you stare at that backlog and feel bad that you haven't touched that great game that you were burning with anticipation to play upon release, but realise the fire'a died down and become anxious because there's another great game or sale looming.

So you just uninstall everything and revert back to Diablo 3, because that's the only game that's actually fun without being demanding.

Could just be a phase that your are going through. I gave up on gaming a year or two ago, then started again a few months back and really enjoying it again.

Sounds like you kinda burnt-out.My solution is take a long break from it all ,for a while. Maybe start looking into some older games eg. Emulators.Discoveried Mario Galaxy the other day,on boy, thats one magical/fun game :)

Watch Doges 2

My personal opinion; social media and gaming platforms has made the world a smaller place. Take Steam, Origin or Battle.net as an example where there are thousands of games available and the choice can quickly become overwhelming.

Back in the day there were maybe a handful of game studios and developers that brought out titles, and there was no such thing as watching a Youtube review video - you just went out and bought the damn game and hoped for the best, and you enjoyed it because that R99 that you paid for it would have been lunch money at school for a term :p

It has a lot to do with free time and exhaustion. When I get home, I'm tired, and don't want to think and struggle.
Back in the day, I learned the mechanics of Serf City and Civilization without manuals or tutorials.
I also lose interest through the boring tutorials in games, and hate dumbed down games.
I don't want the same old crap, I want new experiences.
I still want challenges, and I want engagement. I want a clear goal. I don't want to faf about in skyrim. I don't want to achievement hunt, and I don't want to search for crafting materials.

All in all, I am just harder to please.

I still play games, but I play them once. I also stop playing when something starts boring me, and look for something else. I don't do multiplayer, except with friends. Then it is also on average 2-3 hours a week.
Because life is busier, I know I have to game when I get the chance. I no longer waste as much time on reddit/FB etc. I've never had DSTV or the like, so never just plop on the couch and watch whatever is on. My unwind time will rather be playing some relatively mindless game like Rebel Galaxy or watch Castle or Suits with the SO.

At the age of 36, I have completed more games last year than in pretty much any year before that, except probably for my school years.

The last games I enjoyed was Lands of Lore (in my opinion, the best game ever :o), and Dune 2 / Dune 2000.

Goddammit I'm going to start playing that again!

The only games that do keep me interested is Starcraft 2, MGS and Dragon Age.
The Witcher 1 and 2 was good, haven't played 3 yet.
The rest are just meh. I am however trying to find a local crew on GTA V atm as that is what I'm playing most of the time.

As for growing up, what else is one to do when you come home from work and you've watched all the latest episodes of some series?

Would like to get my hands on something extremely ancient though, like The Adventures of Batman and Robin Cartoon Maker. :)
