Hi everyone, I have been struggling trying to find software for my current ups setup . I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has a ups that turns off the computer when the power fails. Preferably one with a schedule so you can set it to turn off and on at set times. I'm thinking i must just buy a ups but I want to make sure it works on Linux (ubuntu or debian but i will try any linux if it means the ups works). I'm currently using a RCT 650vas which uses the same software as a mecer 650vas ups. They have linux software but it doesn't work. Apparently getting a ups to work with Linux is quite a thing. has anyone got theirs working or do you know of any ups that will work with Linux? I moved from windows and on windows it was working perfectly fine. I've tried different usb cables and different software.

So might not be relevant, but the older APC UPSes have Serial connections so you can write a shell script on linux that interacts with the UPS, they have a deamon called apcupsd you can use.

apcupsd supports USB, RS-232 or Ethernet
If you do buy an APC UPS make sure it does have one of these ports for management as some models have none.
