As the title says does these new FIXED LTE sim cards work on 3G?

No as far as the website - only were there is Fixed LTE coverage.
I don't trust the website nor their support (heard yes and no from them.)

Hopefully someone here have a sim and did the tests.

Hi Thor

Thank you for reaching out to us.

CELL C FIXED LTE plans are offered only for "fixed" usage and are not suited for use on mobile or portable devices. CELL C FIXED LTE will only work on a LTE enabled device coupled with a Cell C USIM.

It does not default to 3G or 2G.

Awesome, thank you for the reply.

Last question, with your new MTN deal, does this mean it roam on MTN LTE or is this only on LTE coverage form CELL C towers?

"your new MTN deal," please provide link to this product? Thanks.

So are we saying that Cell C Fixed LTE-A deals now work on MTN roaming again? Or only those direct from Cell C and not resellers such as Afrihost?

If so this directly contradicts the Cell C coverage map which shows that LTE Fixed is not offered on the MTN Roaming coverage.

Hi dotcat

There has been no change.

It is exactly as illustrated in our Coverage Map.

Hi Cell_C

You have said:

"It means that you can roam on MTN." with reference to CELL C (Fixed Wireless LTE) - So this is really important because the Cell C website says that CELL C (Fixed Wireless LTE) only works on the Cell C network "Check whether you have Fixed LTE coverage where you wish to use this service.".

Just to clarify - will CELL C (Fixed Wireless LTE) work on MTN roaming? Then why does the coverage map indicate that Fixed Wireless LTE and MTN are 2 completely different things? For example see below (no fixed LTE coverage but LTE advanced on MTN band 3 and 8 roaming.

Thanks for clarifying.

Hi dotcat

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Please note that the Roaming Agreement between ourselves and MTN does not include Fixed-LTE. Customers on the FIXED-LTE packages can not roam to any network except Cell C's network.

Now go and read the techcentral article and tell me with tears in my eyes if that is what the article says:
https://techcentral.co.za/cell-c-customers-now-roaming-on-mtn/85139/
This means that Cell C customers outside the urban centres can now roam onto MTN’s 3G and 4G/LTE networks.

The agreement sees MTN providing both 3G and 4G services to Cell C in areas where Cell C has chosen to purchase coverage rather than self-build. Cell C customers now have access to thousands of additional sites, of which around two-thirds are LTE enabled.

Do Something about getting the article corrected.

Hi Geoff.D

Thank you for contacting Cell C.

Please note that there is LTE network and there are FIXED LTE deals,., if you are on a LTE package or prepaid then you can roam on the MTN 3G/4G network. it is only customers that are on FIXED LTE packages that will not be able to roam on the MTN network.
