Dogs Barking

3 to 4 is plenty dogs.

My neighbor has 12.

I stop them from barking at me with fireworks.
Just light a cracker each time they start, they go to the other side of his yard and leave me alone.

Cruel but effective.

lol, I don't throw it at them.
Just light and drop on the ground on my side of the fence.

You have any idea how peaceful it is to do gardening with 12 dogs ranging from foxies to boerbull's all frantically barking at you at the same time?
This of course gets my dogs riled up as well making it 15. I can verbally get my dogs to stop but the pack next door ignores me.

Hence one boom from a black widow and I have hours of peaceful gardening :)

It's amazing how much a solid wall (without gaps or holes) helps keep the commotion under control.
Once a dog has visual contact with another dog or passersby it's game over.

Our three dogs bark when they hear the next door neighbour's dog making a noise behind the wall but it dies down after a few seconds.
However if I put them near a gate or fence with a view of other dogs of people they go beserk for hours on end.

We have fence around half the property and brick wall around the other half (about 2.8/3meters high).
My dogs bark at anything on the far side of the wall but that's because it's open veldt and there is almost no human traffic.

F**k him. Tell him politely "Im sorry sir they are dogs, I tried to stop train them not to bark. It didnt work"

My dog is like that, my neighbour complained. I told him that he is a dog and he will continue being a dog

im sorry, are you actually being serious? :wtf:

if you are, your attitude stinks. its people like you (opposite to the OP) who approach things like this with such a bad attitude. its just like kids... they arent the problem, its the parents. you sir are the problem, not your dogs and I bet your neighbour now has more of a problem with that than your actual dog.

thank goodness you arent my neighbour!

one needs to approach it in a mature manner if you really wanna keep your dog. You need to be able to backup that you have tried various things to shut them up, otherwise the constant barking + plus some other neighbours in cohoots with you will get them put down. There are by-laws in the cape that deal with this kind of thing. In the suburbs anyway....

I also have a daschund. She likes barking. Dogs enjoy barking like ladies like chatting. I would never fit one of those to my dog. If the dog carries on for more than a few mins while I am here (which is most of the time) I stop it, but have no control otherwise

We use the spray collars- seem to work very well.

why don't you just remove your dogs voice box? I mean its effectively the same thing. You get a dog but you don't want it to bark.... what exactly is the point of having a dog that does not bark or is not allowed to bark..

Everyone in this thread that agree's to having collars and shutting the dogs up, imagine doing the same to yourself. Imagine 90% of your life you are stuck within the same four walls. You can hardly ever venture out(theres only a hand full of people that actually take their dogs for walks) the same property and now you want the dogs to keep completely quiet aswell.

ITS A DOG! what are dogs supposed to do? other than bark? If you want something that makes no noise buy a damn fish then...

EDIT: I see the neighbour is complaining, hmmmm, that is a little tricky. Barking the whole day long while im not home I can understand why you would want to use a collar but shame the poor thing is then not allowed to say a word the whole day while you out. Surely there must be a reason why they barking and carry on barking. I would try find the cause and get that behaviour out of them before trying a collar, just seems to cruel.

Dogs should be seen and not heard :P

If you have more than 3 dogs this is logically something you are responsible for.

+1. Dogs don't work when there are more than 2.

I've got 7. They're all incredibly well disciplined and work just fine. One is a staffie-cross that I saved and she is aggressive on the odd occasion, but that's about the most trouble they put me through...

OP, I trained mine not to bark, or to at least ti listen to me when I tell them to shutup using a rolled up newspaper. Makes a loud bang; doesn't hurt them; and every time I pull it out they are on their best behaviour. Mine don't go berserk when left alone though - never have. Not sure what you can really do there short of a shock collar, which I personally hate...

Dogs do not just bark 24/7, that's utter bull****. Most of the time the problem lies with the owner (bored dog)

They not barking 24/7. Its when we not there that they mostly bark.

So that's fine then... when you're not there they can annoy everyone else.

I have three dogs - I've gone to the neighbours which wall they border on and told them to phone me if they dogs bark so I can deal with it. Our dogs are walked almost daily (if I skip a day or two they will remind me be pulling out a tree or something), and given plenty to play with when we're not around, they don't bark.

This is a serious issue that we have often in our complex. We had someone move in with a Husky that would howl for hours once the owners where gone. It was fairly serious as the one neighbour was pregnant and in danger of miscarriage and the dog was preventing her getting rest at night. We almost had the dog removed from the complex but the owners tried exercising the dog more to burn of energy plus the dog got used to its new environment and it stopped that.

Sausage dogs seem to be big culprits though. They do tend to bark a lot and at random hours. We have some near us that are a bit of a nuisance. They regularly disrupt our sleep and wake our kids up.

Take your dogs for a 5km jog... see if they bark afterwards... and it'll most likely do you good.

There's nothing wrong with dogs barking on the odd occasion, but dogs constantly barking for hours on end do so out of sheer frustration and it's not fair on the dog, nor those who live near and around you...

Okay a husky in a complex is really bad, there are rescue organisations here in SA that come take away your husky if you don't know how to look after it. It's nice that they've tried to give it more exercise though

I don't have a husky - but try take my dog away and you'll be dealing with a life and death situation.

Get a citroenella spray anti barking collar.

It's very humane. No shocking neccessary. Dogs dislike citroenella and it will stop them from barking completely.
