Dowloading using torrents? You are being watched!

The Avengers grossing 1.5 Billion
The Dark Knight Rises 1 Billion

Are we seriously killing the industry:wtf:

I received an infringement notice from my ISP. It was forwarded by them from some other company.
Anyways I'm a bit scared to download anything now.

I got one once for downloading a 700mb dvd rip. My ISP actually cut off my internet. I threatned to cancel with them and told them that the downloaded file was deleted. They immediatley put my line back up. The worst of all is the movie was in french, so I didnt watch it anyway.:)

I would gladly buy music and movies if we had a good online, well priced store. The music that I listen to is usually very hard to find at a local store. In the past when I have ordered the cd I want, its taken up to 8 weeks to arrive, or not at all.

In my opinion, the music industry has changed and record companies need to embrace change. I have no problem with people downloading music for free. It exposes new artists to get there name out there. Where bands make their money these days is from performing and endorsements. True fans of a artist will still buy their cd's anyway. I just dont think that paying R300-R400 for a imported cd is worth it.The music industry needs to change. For example, a local band selling a cd for R120 will get between R8-20 per album sold, divided by 3-5 members.

And the truth, which they always seem to conveniently neglect, is that 99% of the content which has been illegally downloaded would not have been purchased otherwise. People download just for the sake of downloading.. Every pirated movie/song does not constitute a lost sale.

Absolutely true. An usually if you find something really worthwhile you buy it anyway.

Cocaine isn't cheap you know. There's also a big concern that these people might have to drive the same car more than once. It's very worrying.

But people are very willing to pay these prices for ease of use, the platform and delivery is set up well. That is the lesson here, I am sure many of those people are capable of downloading torrents, but would rather pay for a simple, easy method of accessing the content. I am willing to bet a lot of those people would rather torrent than go out and physically buy a CD or DVD or only be able to watch a specific episode on a specific day.
I can rent a disc for less than I'd pay on something like iTunes. TV series in particular tend to have ludicrous prices. The lesson as far as I'm concerned is provide a service, download whatever you want up to say 100Gb, for a low monthly subscription and forget about selling individual items. No restrictions on what gets downloaded. Keep it forever if you want, watch it everyday for the rest of your life if you want. I'd happily subscribe to something like that for the low cost and convenience of knowing I'm getting good HD copies without having to be concerned whether some ripper has cocked it up.

This is why I use carrier pigeons.

EDIT: @Johand, lol, you use a VPN to watch YouTube? I promise the feds don't care if you watch birthing videos.

I use Put.io :D My internet is fast enough that my p2p and media streaming can be cloud based now.

I want a whole season? No problem, I can watch any episode I want in 30 seconds. The old way you guys use is too slow for me. When I wanna watch it, I want to watch it right away. I aso, I dont have to effort to get them. I subscribe to all my favorite shows and as they come out, theyre available for me to watch.

Services like Downstorm excel when it comes to privacy. You don't interact with seeders or trackers, downloads are at line speed over http, they provide a number of mumbo jumbo url's to download from and you can compress any torrent and the file name becomes something like 6538255.rar.

Should work fine. Not sure on the streams, but should work well. Try it out. I have the android app, xbmc plugin and I often use the browser interface. Its just so convenient and easy.

OK, but the other problem is that the kids are online gaming most of the time... so they will start whining if I start watching a streaming show.
When they go to bed, then I queue up all my NZB downloads for the night. Then we watch them the following evening, while the boys are gaming.

If I had 10 mbps we could probably do both easily. :(
