Dragon Age

Well while i sound negative about DA:O, i'm just comparing it specifically to Baldur's Gate. If we ignore BG, it remains the best RPG available to date. It is obviously a "step up" from KOTOR and Mass Effect [but that we expect since it's all bioware games] . I am certain Mass Effect 2 will again be a step up from DA:O , but at the same time not entirely different.

As for originality, not so long ago, someone posted this:

"Bioware Cliche Chart"

And Bioware clearly got quite defensive at this, responding on their forums. This response [below] gives quite an insight on why they do certain things with their plot.

well there is so much you can do story wise with fantasy games.

got it on xbox and wow is it ****.
All i seem to do is skip cutscenes and constantly press A when they talk.
like OMG shutup! never seen characters talk so much!

Hey tjommie, :) yes I agree with you, its like back in the day when I read the ENTIRE Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and was like, wtf these ppl talk 2 muchhhhhhhh!!!!

Personally ME 2 will be a good game but I seriously doudt it will be better than DAO. Reason being that are aimed at different markets. ME 2 like ME 1 is an action rpg aimed at the more casual gamer while DAO was always an old school style rpg. Yes they did get quite a lot of action gamers to buy it through the advertising but at its core its much more of a old school style rpg than any other main stream rpg out there and certainly much more old school than all of kotor,me and jade empire.

The other main difference and the main reason why for me DAO will traunch mass effect 2 is the fact that in DAO you do get to shape your character's personality within certain limitations while with mass effect you are boxed in as commander shephard and you are restricted to either renegade or paragon. DAO gives you a much bigger scope to develop your character while with mass effect the feeling is you are playing someone else's character.

I also prefer the dialog method used by DAO, where I know exactaly what option I am choosing. In mass effect the dialog option you chose doesn't always correspond with what your commander shephard will do or say.

It's simple, if you're the type of gamer who is more into instant gratification and action style RPG's, then DAO might not be for you. But if you have played (and enjoyed) RPG's like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter nights then you'll most certainly enjoy DAO.

IMO most casual gamers who buy the game on xbox or ps3 will not enjoy the game because they're use to instant gratification action games. (there will be exceptions of course). For those that enjoy a more in depth game with loads of character development, party management, story telling etc, then DAO is awesome. (not to forget the great combat). In my humble opionion most of those types of gamers will be on PC,...not xbox and ps3.

Well said. I've turned into a more instant gratification gamer. I finished all the Neverwinter nights & Baldur's Gate and used to be a big RPG fan. But lately I dont have the time to sit with a 60 - 200 hour RPG. I've got about an hour or three to game every now and then and I want to get my fix and be done with it. I don't want to sit through three hours of dialogue and about 20 mins of gametime. I played about 5 hours of Fallout 3 and got extremely bored with it and never played again. As for DA:O, I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I played about 20 mins and promptly uninstalled it again. Not my thing anymore.

U got bored of Fallout3... Wow, ok thats the first time i've heard that.... I thought that game was awesome... Borderlands reminds me of it aswell, another sweet game... As for DAO, played about 2 hour then bought MW2, so thats on the back burner but from wat i've seen its pretty dam good!

Thats just my 2 cents worth :)

Where can I get a copy locally? for a cheap price?

Any idea if expansions will be available? and how big is DLC?

I think the pc version is still sold out at the supplier, xbox 360 and ps3 is in stock though.

They have said they will be releasing expansions and dlc.

DLC differs from the small item pre order bonus items which are a few kb's, same as the dragon armour and ce items. Stone prisoner is 300 mb and wardens keep 170mb.

I am about 20 hours into the game and Fankly I'm obsessed.

I started with a rogue and hated it. I find rogues squishy - So I rerolled a mage after about 2 hours of playing a rogue and I love it. All I want to do is play but unfortunately I haven't played all week... college + work + girlfriend = no DA:O for me :(

*RAGE*

I agree, Fallout 3 really was boring.I am a RPG nutcase but I just could not get into Fallout 3 for some reason.

I got DAO this weekend. Haven't installed it yet, because I'm waiting for my new hd to arrive from overseas. When it does, I'm upgrading to Win7 and then it's playing time :D

-I love the gore. Blood splatter is everywhere..way more than any other game I've played :)
-Graphics are okayish, even on max with 8x AA...I expected better but nothing to complain about.
-I had to get used to the fact that your character does not speak in conversations....because I'm used to Mass Effect.
-The character models/NPC's walk a bit stiffly/rigidly
-But overall, an addictive game.

Fallout 3 was :eek::eek: amazing!
Perfect balance between rpg & instant gratification, almost finished it i'm at the last fight but i got a new pc so need to transfer my saved games.

My rogue is the business, loving the class. Im just finding normal abit too easy.
The blood spatter is abit silly thou. Kill a rat and ur whole party is drenched
You like look like you just got owned in paintball by team red :P

Great game but just lacking that "ooomph" to make it superb. Was a little linear imo,the choices did not have the effect on the story line that I was hoping for.
