linux hacker 1: i'm bored. linux hacker 2: let's re-write the whole kernel! linux hacker 1: ok. *hackety-hack* linux hacker 1: wow, it's 0.00001% faster and takes up 1kb less space! linux hacker 2: w00t.
 
it's a myth... the marconi modem does not work on any linux platform... I was currently attending a Novell clp certification course and the instructor aswell as a host of other Linux boffins just could not get the thing to work , about bursting bubbles... maybe find us a solution that you've tested and works before pointing out the obvious.... I think we all know the BL00DY thing is PPPOe , platforms that were tested ,Suse 10,Suse 9.3,Mandrake 2005 and Ubuntu , nothing worked . The closest you get is the dial out utility which promptly disconnects . Telkom are usless , the modem is useless even the correspondence I've had with people in the UK suggest the same problems with a similar modem over there also running on the alcatel chipset.

I've gotten IPCop 4.1 to recognise it as a Hurricane 3000 something, I even downloaded and uploaded some firmware for and to it, but got distracted by internet pr0n before I could dial up. Hey, Pr0n. Maybe it did work. I can't remember. :p It sure looked like it was going to work....
