DStv 2014 subscription price going up

Have to have dstv for kids as adsl in my area is low speed at the moment.

Wondering if I should pay for a full year, you then apparently get 1 month free?

I feel all of your pain. DSTV is a drug for many, so they just have to sit back and pay the price or go cold turkey. Thankfully I don't have DSTV.

I would pay R50 per channel for SS1 and SS2.

Beyond that I have no interest.

They even have History Channel on the Roku now.

Watched Vikings S2E1 yesterday.

I don't understand their pricing structure. The marginal cost to them of adding extra premium package subscribers is practically zero. If they had to decrease the price of the premium package by say R150 I'm pretty sure they would not only have a lot of lower-package subscribers upgrade, but also get a whole bunch of new subscribers on board too and their revenue would ultimately increase even more. Simple economics.

Not that I care, I ditched DSTV for Netflix and Hulu months ago and have never looked back.

For those asking, there are many ways to watch Netflix and Hulu on your TV instead of on your laptop. Most smart TV's have Netflix and Hulu already installed as apps, or if they don't, you can buy a standalone media player like the Apple TV or WDTV Live that connect to your TV via an HDMI cable. And it works perfectly on a 2MB ADSL line, no need to get a 4MB line.

Just waiting for my 10Mbps access! I will then cancel my DStv subscription and move to NetFlix. I have a Boxee at home which does have a web browser function, so sure it will work perfectly.

Why 10Mbps?
You can stream on 2.

Cancelled dstv 12 months ago and haven't looked back. Between Netflix, NowTV and a few other sites my bases are covered for a fraction of the price.

been dstv free for more than 2years and dont miss it. this openviewHD looks interesting.....

R300 to watch my football isn't worth it anymore. I have cancelled. **** 'em. It's ridiculous.

With Telkom's recent line upgrades, I can finally stream live sport without buffer for FREE.

Why wait for 10Mbps
I'm using a 4Mps line with a WD TV Play got Netflix and BBC iplayer able to watch both SD quality though (as I need to have 2 streams running at same time) Even got music channel sorted via Youtube.

Only using DSTV Access for wife to record SABC Soaps and 1 or 2 kids channels

I have 6 Mbps, and I have the 4 simultaneous streams option from Netflix.

That was our main concern when we cut the cord but NowTV includes Disney channel so the kids are happy again. :)
