DStv 2014 subscription price going up

"Downgraded" from the DSTV Premium package to DSTV EasyView two years ago because my son was at University and did not want the distraction.
Other than saving a lot of money I don't miss it, it can stay off.

bah indeed... haven't watched anything since December... All the cool stuff was downloaded, as usual.. MonoChoice lagging far behind.. they're like on episode 4 of one series, meanwhile I already downloaded the ENTIRE series.

They also really don't care for British TV, so glad I have set myself up to get the pristine 1080i stuff and not have to look at the over-compressed standard-definition crap on channel 120.

You know, its not hard anymore to get whatever show you enjoy watching, from the internet, usually at a quality that exceeds MonoChoice. Yesterday I downloaded the entire current season of Mythbusters in 1080i, up until last week's episode.
Even the stuff on channel 323 (VH-1 classic) its all on YOUTUBE FFS!!!

Anything that does streaming such as youtube etc. and does a media player as well, with a HDD included?

My Sony Blu-ray player does Youtube like a beast... very well. We often use it.

And I use the PLAY works like a dream and was easy to set up. (settings exactly like the Live) Use Youtube, Netflix and BBC iplayer (though if you want Hulu+ you cant have BBC Iplayer) there's a few other online services I haven't had a chance to play around with - I took BBC since its free Hulu is subscription based. (Via Unotelly DNS)
Though If you have the cash go for the LIVE - works a lot faster then the PLAY - and more services.

I have netflix and hulu on my Samsung TV...But I've been looking for a cheap alternative to stream the BBC Iplayer.

How did you buy this? they only ship to UK...Do you have family there or something?

Thanks
Someone brought it down for me - I'm planning on getting another two next month. :)

Called MC, since I have already paid for March if i pay for a FULL year its R8185 so will be R682 p/m for HD + pvr

2mb uncapped Afrihost R397 + R179 telkom line = R576 p/m

Then add hulu + netflix + vpn
Then computer running 24/7 to download stuff if thats what you do.

How much data can I pull on 2mb uncapped p day?

I would assume depending on your ISP as they may throttle you are a certain usage.

If I could pull 10gb a day then that would more then enough , i only watch about 3hrs of TV a day at the most.
My kid watches his cartoons the nice thing about dstv is you just turn to a channel and he watches, most guys that have netflix are in areas with decent adsl and i would pull my hair out if there was buffering and stop start.

I tested netflix at work 4mbs business uncapped and got buffering with Internet Solutions.

Plugg?

IS is a backbone provider. Each ISP implements their own rules. My IS based account hasn't given a days problem with Netflix over the last year.

So yesterday I sent DSTV an email requesting my service be cancelled, expecing the usual one month notice etc. Today I received a reply stating

Thank you for your email.

We have cancelled your subscription with immediate effect as requested. The account currently reflects a credit balance of R581.05, kindly advice if this amount should be left on your account or refunded into your bank account.

Best wishes

Is that it? No notice period, subscription stopped, done & dusted?

I'll obviously have to check at home tonight whether it's off but gotta say I'm really impressed with their termination procedure

It also terminates or changes your package immediately if you do it yourself via their self service website.
