It's a continuation of standard corporate culture. Once a shift in consumers' patterns emerges you design a product to appeal to those not amongst early adopters, in order to milk them for every last cent possible whilst stifling any actual progess. This you dress up in the colours of being 'customer-centric' and 'forward-thinking'. Progress will of course still happen, but it in spite of these companies, not because of them.

If it was UNLIMITED "DStv Data" and a free 5GB cap for [-]porn[/-] general internet activities then folks would take this seriously.

Ideally you should have ONE subscription with Multichoice which should give you DStv, Uncapped internet, Unlimited movies + series from their Box Office thing and some other stuff which I can't think of right now and ALL that should cost you what a DStv premium subscription costs. These guys are serving from the same kitchen but are charging you by the plate instead of for the whole meal.

Probably being a bit harsh... OK, very harsh, but in many, many instances consumers are being taken to the cleaners for what can only be described as luxuries. It's a combination of the frog-in-the-pot analogy and people not wanting to bear even the slightest discomfort. It just annoys me on a personal level; I don't suspect that one can do much to change seemingly inherent human nature.

That being said, and dreaming for a bit, how keen do you think Multichoice would be to raise fees if they thought there was any actual danger of them losing 10 or 20% of their subscribers?
