Dstv culling more channels

Some of these channels will be going bang themselves in this economic climate, like the Indian B4U Movie channel that went blank for months before and had MC putting confused messages on the i-Plate.

But mostly it looks like a local-is-lekka fail...

I see yet another channel is closing at the end of March.

Channel 127 Ginx esports tv. Pretty pissed about this one because as a gamer I watch it when I have nothing else to do even though it has a lot of repeats and annoying presenters.

Knew they would take it away eventually but still. Now there will be nothing game related on dstv anymore.
Speaking as a loyal viewer of Ginx TV, I can tell you I never saw that notice yesterday. They're just screwing us over again

Additional 2nd & 3rd Indian Package channels (first 451, now 452 & 456) have also maybe closed, didn't see announcements about those two but they're currently coded E38 - not available. However their EPG info is still listed.

Maybe all related to the possible Canal+ takeover of MC next week, who knows.

Called them now regarding 452, they say it's a technical error that they are trying to escalate to the service provider.

Also, 103 1Magic has actually just been replaced by 103 1Max, and I can't see any difference. Lol, another branding change attempt to rescue the "local" agenda.

The initial plan was to make content from 1Magic Showmax exclusive and 1Max is basically being used to just promote Showmax. They weren't planning on replacing the channel that's currently what's being seen outside of South Africa as consumers only have Showmax.

Can confirm, 103 now not listed on decoders outside SA on the IS 20/36 feed.

1Max is more like BBC UKTV which is non-premium as parts of the programming have been seen on other M-Net channels. I presume the plan is to close 1Max at some given point when Showmax manages to reach its peak and have existing channels continue promoting its offering.

That makes sense, they're doing a lot more of that kind of exclusive thing for lower packages.

BTW, BBC UKTV's access varies across southern Africa as well, not sure of the details but the SA arrangement is different. Which is why we should avoid discussing service outside SA (we call it ROA - Rest Of southern Africa) or it could confuse others, on DStv's forum we weren't allowed to.

Doubt 103 will ever get canned completely due to being a main channel number, they'll just replace it again.
(You probably know that 102 is the ROA version of M-Net so that gap doesn't actually exist, just 105 missing but that may be in use on the other satellites - I don't monitor that anymore.)

@Insidus
Looks like a new Portuguese channel is coming, see the synopsis on test channel 1001 "F150"

Not really sure if it's new they tend to host open windows for these type of channels
They added it on channel 530 this morning, it looks like a Portuguese technology event.
On all packages, even EasyView.

Edited - info found was confusing.

R10 000 is up for grabs to the lucky winner that kisses their DSTV equipment good bye

They're hosting some local event which I think South Africa is involved in

Make it English, or Afrikaans, or I could not be bothered.

Our interest is more technical than anything else.

@Insidus
Other thing maybe of interest for your website that happened recently is they shifted satellite location of some channels and have now removed a transponder from service, down to 31 now. Maybe a cost saving exercise.
