will this thing work inside a building with a concrete slab above and no visibility to the sky at all assuming i am in an area of coverage?

Only one way to find out. In my experience 3G signals and concrete don't play nice. Don't know about these though.

Can someone put screenshots of any of the supersport channels playing at fullscreen on a desktop PC.

At least read the first post buddy. Screenshots on page 5 of this thread. The DStv player can't do full screen.

You'll have to test it...

DVB-H is running at a lower frequency than 3G and does not need a return path like 3G. I do know that with DVB-T/H you have to install gap fillers in bigger buildings.

@martin: Does the DSTV software allow you to record the video stream and in what formats?

Do you know which ports are being used to carry the RTP stream. If you haven't already tried you can open a command prompt and enter the command netstat -noa (you need to do this before loading the DVB-H software and again after loading the software). Any new ports that appear are most likely being used by the DVB-H streaming software. I think that port 5004 is normally used for video streaming but you need to confirm this. Once you have his information you can download something such as RTPTools to capture the stream using rtpdump (rtpdump -F ascii -o dvbh.rtp IPAddress#/Port# (with the correct IP address and port)) from any of these ports. It may then be possible to playback the captured file using something like VLC or QuickTime.

No recording functionality as of yet.

I have actually started with the netstat investigation but my PC has a ton of development apps opening and closing ports in the background and it got a little overwhelming after a few minutes. I decided to rather carry on the investigation on my wife's PC (which has much less crap running on it) but haven't got the time to continue with it yet. I'll see if can get to it this weekend and get back to you.

Off topic: Ever tried running netstat with torrent software seeding files in the background? It's pretty scary. :)

Can anyone speculate as to whether they think the price for the drifter will come down any time soon?

Highly doubtful that it will happen very soon. There's probably a chance that it will happen in April of next year once the subscription fees start kicking in.

Thanks for your feedback. Do you perhaps know where the cheapest place to buy one is? I am located in Cape Town.

Thanks

They sell for R599 everywhere I've been. Keep an eye out for sales or promotions at the various retailers, maybe you'll get lucky.

Any idea on how long it will take for them to get it working on other phones?

They should have support for Blackberry and Android by April. There is also thread on their mobile forum somewhere of all phones they are currently going to implement. No Windows Mobile support unfortunately due to lack of demand for now.

:D That is the norm these days.

I wanted to purchase a docking station (with sound) for my iPhone and did some research on the web. Found what I was looking for and went to a computer shop to see if they had it. They did. I took one but then a salesmen stopped me and asked me if I got what I was looking for. I said yes and explained my choice to him. He then started to argue with me about the spec of the device and told me the thing couldn't do what I thought it did and that I should look at somehing else. I put the item back on the shelf and walked out. Bought it somewhere else and it does exactly what I understood it to do. Training of sales staff is at an all time low.

I'm wanting to do the same with my iPhone and Drifta... where did you by the docking station, and how much did it set you back? Did you get the universal dock?

Will the drifta run on an android 2.1 tablet?

How would you go about installing it?

Got my Drifta on Saturday and tested it on the road from fourways to Boksburg. Worked all the way.

Tested it in PTA east on Saturday and it worked. However on Sunday, I got no signal in PTA east.
