DStv explains repeats

DStv said they are well aware of the fact that they need to improve communication regarding the scheduling of repeats across family channels like MNET and MNET Series.

Keeping your EPG accurate will already help. Planning the EPG a week or month in advance will help even more. Telling people to go look at the EPG on the web, is not the answer.

Aletta Alberts, GM for Content at DStv, said that consumers in other nations cut their teeth on cable, rather than satellite, getting them used to repeats. South Africans went straight to satellite which typically offers less repeats, creating a group of more discerning viewers.

Bah! So rather we get a television medium that is reliable so long as the weather's "good?"

I'm sorry - one of my biggest irks with DSTV were how close repeats were to each other. Not to mention the annoying and often badly-placed ad-breaks that would sometimes cut into the show. I'd've preferred being able to watch the "international" ads instead...

*shrug*

"According to DStv South Africa has one of the lowest repeat rates in the world. On average movies are repeated around 10 times per channel. This is much lower than the 20 repeats typically found in the US.

DStv on average repeats a movie 10 times, a TV series 4 to 6 times and documentaries 6 times."

in 1 month yes ..... but they just have a month or two break and then repeat all the repeated crap again. I remember checking in 2006 (using the Guide) there were a few movies that were on 30+ times in a year ..... almost the same for 'documentaries'.

I would not mind having a channel which showed spectator views of various online games while they are in progress, like a CS hour, or a WoW quest. Just pipe the feed straight from the game servers to the DSTV broadcaster.

I listened to the radio interview about this. They are very skilled at lovely words and phrases. If you read the claim, they say per channel. However, DSTV repeats the same movies and shows across many channels!!

Are you crazy! Do you want the subscription do increase by another R30?

:D

Aye, and then claim it as being a 'Premier' ....... how dumb do they think we are ffs

"DStv on average repeats a movie 10 times, a TV series 4 to 6 times and documentaries 6 times." this is bullcr@p - unless the timeframe is per month per channel

I wish someone with some 'clout' would ask DSTV why, if all the series are 'sponsored', do we still have to pay so much. I mean, if companies are paying for the series and you add the ton of revenue from the thousands of ads, why are we paying so much?

WoW quest -feed for DSTV

Wow, now that is some lateral thinking! Brilliant idea
Where is their suggestion box?

.

They talk lies, repeat a series or doc about 4-6 times. I only watch DSTV on the odd occasion over the weekend and they repeat the same episode at least twice in one day on the same channel.

I would rather spend R500 a month on going to the movies.

I ask you all, can I order SKY channel box from UK or card and I watch it in South Africa, will it work?

Unfortunately as far as I know that would not work... sorry mate...

if you have 2 channels and content gets repeated 10 times per channel, chances of viewing a repeated show is higher. Hence you have frustrated customer.

bump up the repeat intervals to say 20 and the number of channels to say 200, then the chance of viewing a repeated show is less. the end results, happy customers.

the above quote from the article is useless. great the repeat interval is so low compared to US. but what are the choice of channels compared to the rest of the world ?

no HBO, no Comedy Central, no Sci-Fi Channel ....... the list goes on and on.
