Not sure...when I receive the decoder will definitely let you know...but I'm assuming it combines the two into one cable...and there is a legacy port as well so you can connect a secondary decoder as well...
 
HDPVR-4P launched Jul 2008 (5 years ago) has Ethernet, usb back and front and sata - all for "future use".
To date these ports have been disabled.
I don't see any improvement over the hardware of the 4P.

I have 3 questions:
Q1.Why not just enable the ports on the existing decoders instead of asking us to pay R2,500 for a new device?
Q2.What about allowing for upgrade of the exiting disk in the 4P/4U/2P/2U decoders?
Q3.Will the Exploder decoder with Linux+Java+Ethernet+Internet allow me to run BitTorrent?
 
Built for the future but with no built in Wi-Fi? You got to be kidding me. Who ever designed this middle age monstrosity should educate himself or herself about the latest technology. I will stick to my Roku streaming device, thank you very much.
 
Waste of time - USB ports needs to be enabled so I can download stuff to iPad to watch when I am travelling.

First thing I looked for. It's insane not to include Wi-Fi!

I don't see any need to upgrade, but if I was in the market for a new decoder, I guess this is the one to get.
 
Combination of my old SD PVR and my Pace HD PVR is still the best to date. We are able watch three different channels and record three different channels simultaneously. I can be in the living room watching my sports or documentaries, while my boys doing their cartoons in their bedroom and wifey soaping in our bedroom. What more can I ask for, no remote tussle in my crib. Any new decoder failing to match or beat that.. It's a fail for me.

Like my current setup, but its been unplugged for almost a year now. XBMC with HPMS and now Futubox ;)

Yea because south africa is sooo cutting edge that we cant use any proven tech. We have to re-invent the wheel to prevent people from pirating stuff from DSTV.

Probably going to enable USB for WiFi dongle at a later stage.

Would be great though if one could plugin a HDD via USB as well and use this one device as a media player as well - one device and remote for all your home media where one's own content could be quickly accessible alongside the Multichoice content. That would make me pre-order one right now.

What was wrong with calling it DStv Explorer? I remember filling in the customer survey for this and I said I liked none of the proposed explora/decoda/AIDS-D names as people who speak like that typically cannot afford Pay-TV and I have no need to feel some "connection" with them via my decoder.
