DStv Explora decoder details revealed

My current pvr can record 2 channels and watch one. Why would I downgrade to watch one and record one pfft.

"2. Will DMX DJ be available?
Yes
Please note there is a known issue with DMX DJ – a slight delay with the play out of approximately 2.5 minutes. This will be resolved."

That's not a bug, it's a plague!!!

Keen to get one - have wishlisted on kalahari.com. Going to sell my SD PVR to cover the cost of this new unit.....

  • 175 hours of catch-up
  • 220 hours of recording
Surprised with this split.

If their aim is to create a (reduced) Netflix type experience containing premium/curated content (as opposed to self initiated), I would have thought more of the capacity would be dedicated to CatchUp?

I would actually like to know the technical specs of the processor etc...

+1

My UEC 4T is dog slow in responding. The PACE 2P is a bit better. I hope this one will be even faster.
My UEC 4T has also slowed down badly over the past 7 months. It used to be very responsive.

TiVo Premiere 4 is $249,99 plus service of $14,99 pm and it really looks like a better device with Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Spotify, connectivity to Smartphones and 4x tuners to record 4 shows at once. This "Explora" seems really expensive for half the device.

You haven't factored in an uncapped ADSL with line rental.....

hrm.. why no baked in wifi 802.11n lite ??i think thats more useful than built in ether but i guess dongles = more money

I'd think its pretty possible. I'm guessing here; but I think included shipped harddrive just a standard 2.5" SATA drive?

Don't have links, but you can plug the current PVR drive into your PC and partition the new drive the same and then copy all recordings over...... You just can't watch those recordings on a PC due to the encryption. It's a simple process but watch out for extra heat. PVR's are like ovens with the standard drive in...

Not with the HDPVRs... they don't recognise bigger harddrives if memory serves me correctly.

Ah more good news:

3. How many series can I set recordings on?
40

4. Will recordings have subtitles?
Yes, for programmes that have subtitles included
