Hello,

Can any one help me with this problem, i got a DSTV explora installed, and moved my HD PVR for extra view to the bedroom, and for 2 months everything was working perfectly. When the cold weather set in, in the morning and Night on channels i watch regularly the picture on explora and HD PVR starts to freeze and is distorted. On other channels I dont watch, the picture is perfect. I called my installer and he told me to buy a smart LNB. I got one from Makro, and for 2 days , there was no problem.

The same problem is back, and the installer now informs me that the smart LNBs now on the market are faulty and I have to wait for new smart LNBs , and this will fix the problem.

I call Multi choice, Multi choice informs i need to get a bigger dish. But i have friends with same size of dish with no problems.

Has anyone experienced this problem and how do I solve it.

Thanks

Eh your installer though :wtf:

Ok have you perhaps checked your signal stats to see how good or bad they are?

Sounds like the dish isn't perfectly aligned, the smart LNB is quite sensitive to alignment, I've got the same decoders and installed the smart LNB when I added the explora, the signal was fine on the HD PVR but the explora was giving ****, so I purchased a satellite finder and found my dish was quite far out of alignment.

Also, make sure if you're using the SatCR connections on both decoders that the tuner frequencies and index's are set correctly.

I use

Explora

Tuner 1 - 1210 and 0
Tuner 2 - 1420 and 1
Tuner 3 - 1680 and 2

HD PVR

Tuner 1 - 2040 and 3
Tuner 2 - 1006 and 4

EDIT: On a family members setup, using one smart switch with more than one decoder caused issues, probably because we didn't set the different frequencies and index's :)

Please explain how you are adjusting the user bands and frequencies on the HD PVR 2 tuner???

Edit: ensure installation type says SatCR before pressing edit

AFAIK you still cannot do it, so it's more than likely...

HD PVR

Tuner 1 - 1210 and 0
Tuner 2 - 1420 and 1

Explora

Tuner 1 - 1680 and 2
Tuner 2 - 2040 and 3
Tuner 3 - 1006 and 4

I was told there was a bad batch of smart lnb's, recently had mine replaced, was having similar issues... Current lnb seems fine... Your lnb should still be under warranty, try getting a replacement...

You could try the quad lnb with a switch as well...

You sure?

Your problem is almost certainly a badly aligned antenna and poorly adjusted skew angle on the LNB. You need to get this fixed, either by an installer or yourself with the aid of a simple satfinder and plenty of patience.

(1) MC do recommend that an antenna with a diameter larger then 80cm is used, BUT this in itself does not guarantee good reception, only improves reception when the weather is bad.
(2) There is a batch of faulty SLNBs in the market. You can contact MC direct and get them to verify that the SLNB you have is part of that batch in which case they may replace it for you free of charge with one that is not faulty.
(3) Provide me with the model number of the HD PVR and I will post the required settings for the user bands and frequencies on the Explora to be able to allow both decoders to use the Unicable ports .....

Last time I checked it was not possible to change the user bands and frequencies on any of the HD PVRs.

Certainly not possible on the UEC HD PVRT 4 tuner -- just checked.

Confirmed that it works on the 2P. Just checked. Certainly not common knowledge in the trade, so I learnt something new today... Thanks Segg!

Yes a quad LNB together with a Explora 5-2 switch ( if you can get hold of one) will work.
A quad LNB together with the MUD installation type Explora replacement switch will work, BUT the combination costs more than a SLNB .....

Could you check what the sw version is please? It would be interesting to know when MC sneaked in a sw upgrade on the HD PVR 2Ps.

I wonder of someone could check the HD PVR 4 tuner Pace?

Hello,

Thanks for all the feedback, i changed my Tuner frequency and bands on Explora and HD PVR, with no change. I noticed though that only the HD channels were freezing. So it might be the Smart LNB that i have.

I will got to MC, and ask for another Smart LNB and see it it works.

Thank you.
