DStv in big trouble

DStv’s subscriber numbers have plummeted in the past three years, with South Africa’s largest pay-TV operator seeing its customers recede to levels last recorded in 2019.

In MultiChoice’s latest financial report, its half-year results for the period ended 30 September 2024, the company revealed that DStv’s subscribers had declined to 7.4 million in South Africa.

Nonsense.. just today I saw someone sitting in a little pop up Multichoice stand in the mall signing up for DStv and a few hours later another person walking around with a brand new explora ultra decoder..

DStv is thriving....

I don't understand... Why is this @Jan? Every day I read a new but familiar unsponsored article on mybb which clearly illustrates DSTV's unparalleled value for money, especially when compared to those living in more developed nations earning much larger salaries.

Maybe people simply aren't aware? Especially those who have been paying for subscriptions and are apparently cancelling.. I suspect they just don't understand.

You should increase the number of mybb articles praising DSTV to maintain your reputation as an unbiased and trusted source for tech-related news in SA.

What do you want? Lip service? The article isn't critical of DSTV - It's reporting on subscriber numbers.

A few weeks back was at a place that had DSTV and it just reminded me why I wouldn't ever get it.

Putting reruns and old content aside, there was literally 2 channels I would normally watch. Managed to watch it on night 1 and then the rest was just "No signal error".

DStv hasn't had anything of value to offer outside sport for years, and even the sport is a tiny niche that pay way more than what it is really worth. DStv's witch hunt for pirates was never anything more than it's own admission that it never understood or accepted that it was really the problem all along. Was with what was M-net from its launch and even then knew its business model was never going to work by year two. They only thing they ever had going for them was their only competition the SABC was far worse then they were.

What? You blame DStv for this place's bad installation? Please explain.
I blame the use of a sattelite service that is unreliable. It's akin to your Netflix going down because of a peering issue, which Netflix is in control of, or at least in more control than the end user.

A bad installation would, anyways, be evident in a larger amount of chanells not specifically 2.

Which two?

DSTV has been exploiting people for years just because people had no other options. Now with the new product (mobile streaming) and smart TV streaming. They are bound for loses of subscriptions every month if they go on with the service they are providing.

For years we've been complaining to DSTV about the repeating the same movies again and again. I mean how many time can one watch "Alvin And The Chipmunks" I'm sure not a 100 times and 5 times a week. Not only that movie but 100s of them. Even E-tv wasn't doing that and it was a free channel. We used to make sure 20:00pm was the time everyone gather on the sitting room to watch a movie on E-tv because we knew they will play a nice and new movies. Who can tell me which channel does that on DSTV, none.

The economy is on the blink of collapse and we as consumers tend to be more mindful of what we are paying for. DSTV is a waiste. I'm next to unsubscribe. I'm just waiting to buy my smart tv or tv card then the unlimited data deal them boom I'm sorted watching and streaming whatever I want and something new, something on trends not "Rocky Balboa", "Alvin And The Chipmunks", "Kandasamys:The Wedding"; "Barnie The Dolphin"; "Tatanic" . Should I go on? I think you get the picture.

This complain too will fall into deaf ears and you act all surprised when your profits are dwindling. You haven't seen anything yet. There more people who are going to unsubscribe. Care about your clients, understand what they want, invest in your company not your CEO's fat salaries 🫵🏽

You're aware that the 8pm Sunday movie was pretty much an M-Net thing since forever + you're comparing to E-tv which has notoriously shown Anaconda multiple times on a Sunday for like the last 30 years?
So if you want a Sunday night movie at 8pm you go to M-Net as it has been since 1986 or thereabouts after Carte Blanche. Also they repeat the same movies on the movie channels due to the fact that there are only so many movies that can be shown, so in order to not have dead air, there are repeats.

If you like movies and series, DSTV is a rip off
If you like sport, DSTV is a bargain

Simple as that
