DStv in big trouble

You're aware that the 8pm Sunday movie was pretty much an M-Net thing since forever + you're comparing to E-tv which has notoriously shown Anaconda multiple times on a Sunday for like the last 30 years?
So if you want a Sunday night movie at 8pm you go to M-Net as it has been since 1986 or thereabouts after Carte Blanche. Also they repeat the same movies on the movie channels due to the fact that there are only so many movies that can be shown, so in order to not have dead air, there are repeats.

Dead air? So much movies to be shown. You must take a look at your DSTV channels right now b4 making this response you typed without thinking defenging the exploiting business who have been doing this for years.

Licensing, you need to pay to broadcast stuff. You also need to broadcast stuff a certain amount of times according to the license. This is for series and for movies, you can license stuff for a set period or set number of screenings. After that the license expires and you need to pay for it again or move on.
There are 24 hours a day the average movie is 2 hours, therefore they need to cover 12 screenings, also they still cater the old school way of sometimes having the same movie 12 hours apart for those that missed it earlier. Why do you think SABC and E-TV have older movies and series if any? Cause the older something is the cheaper the fees are for licensing.
It's also why streaming services try to make their own content as than they don't need to pay licensing fees to other studios.

They lost R6million rands on the last financial year. Tell me, how much is that movie license you are talking about brother? If you dont take care of your clients , will see that and they will leave you for those who care. Invest in your business services and improve every year. I don't care how minimal you do it. Do something eye catching for client to believe you care more about them then their subscription amount that increases every year.

Their M-Movie channels' offerings have got far worse in the last few years, some improvement recently though.. we'll see. Main reason it's so bad is DStv decided to focus mostly on local content *sigh*

Might get fixed somewhat by Canal+ but it's a changed environment; found out from the source that DStv was paying $1 Million per major movie (all screenings combined) about 15 years ago, so today it would be very hard to compete with other markets.

DSTV has been exploiting people for years just because people had no other options. Now with the new product (mobile streaming) and smart TV streaming. They are bound for loses of subscriptions every month if they go on with the service they are providing.

For years we've been complaining to DSTV about the repeating the same movies again and again. I mean how many time can one watch "Alvin And The Chipmunks" I'm sure not a 100 times and 5 times a week. Not only that movie but 100s of them. Even E-tv wasn't doing that and it was a free channel. We used to make sure 20:00pm was the time everyone gather on the sitting room to watch a movie on E-tv because we knew they will play a nice and new movies. Who can tell me which channel does that on DSTV, none.

The economy is on the blink of collapse and we as consumers tend to be more mindful of what we are paying for. DSTV is a waiste. I'm next to unsubscribe. I'm just waiting to buy my smart tv or tv card then the unlimited data deal them boom I'm sorted watching and streaming whatever I want and something new, something on trends not "Rocky Balboa", "Alvin And The Chipmunks", "Kandasamys:The Wedding"; "Barnie The Dolphin"; "Tatanic" . Should I go on? I think you get the picture.


This complain too will fall into deaf ears and you act all surprised when your profits are dwindling. You haven't seen anything yet. There more people who are going to unsubscribe. Care about your clients, understand what they want, invest in your company not your CEO's fat salaries

I am going to play devils advocate here. Dislike DSTV as much as you do. However that said, DSTV actually has less repeats that USA TV network. USA networks typically have double the amount of repeats.

That said not everyone are able to catch the new movie or episode release so having a movie repeat or episode isn't a bad thing.

DSTV is no different to other TV networks, they have always had a dedicated channel to the new releases after which it gets relegated to channels showing older stuff and eventually channels that shows classic stuff.

Your a bit delusion if you think DSTV is the worse offender when it comes to repeats, also several channels are aired as is from the services they acquired rights to the amount of repeats is beyond their control. like Disney or cartoon network or whatever channels.

DSTV has only a few channels where they are in control of the actual programming. They do not curator or dictate programing on most of the channels.

So yeah bit harsh to blame DSTV for national geographic programming being shyte......

I don't blame DSTV not entirely their fault, quite often you also get knock on effects like writers guild strikes that can set programing back months. The last strike was 148 days.

Do I do agree DSTV programing in general is shyte, TV in general is shyte, haven't watched TV in 10+ years, much rather stream, what I want when I want....

I mean there used to be a channel on Sky called Dave, you wanna know what repeats were like wow, I remember that there also used to be a channel +1 and +2, these were the exact same channels just running 1 hour and 2 hour behind, it was like wtaf.
Though the Sky Tevo was pretty advanced in feel, even when we finally got one in SA.
