Sure it would look crappy on an LCD due to the transmission quality, but on a CRT TV which outputs an interlaced signal to "improve" picture quality it would be awesome.
No it's not. It's so crap it's unwatchable unless you have it in such a small window and sit 10cm from the screen!
(Tested drifted -> windows XBMC media pc -> Samsung 32" widescreen CRT via hdmi & S-video, 720p & native 576i - all suck. )
A CRT TV is 480i at best.
I figure that this way the output would be acceptable .

Since I can adjust mine to whichever resolution & aspect ratio take my word for it - looks crap don't bother.
