DStv Now explains low-quality RWC streams

You seem quite passionate about this. Is this pile of **** streaming system one of your projects?
Nope, just tired of the constant whining from those that don't even subscribe, by all means moan if you're subscribed. I don't even use it, because I'll just watch it on the actual channel.

You have a very warped view of how the world works. If your "actual channel" dropped or becameunwatchable would you not whine? You're paying for a service, DSTV Now customers are paying for a service - what's the difference?

I bet you most of the people moaning aren't customers, they are the ones borrowing parents, friends or whomevers accounts.

What has that go to do with anything?

You can register a maximum of four. A maximum of two simultaneous viewing streams across your registered devices is permitted.

This means that you can either: be streaming two live TV channels OR stream two Catch Up videos OR stream one live TV channel and one Catch Up video.

The accounts are there to be shared with people in your family or others - DSTV designed it this way. It's not as if people are using/accessing these accounts illegally.

The simple truth is that DSTV is not able to provide the quality and service for their product to be used as intended.

BTW, I don't have access or use DSTV or any of its products.

+1
Netflix recommends 5Mbps for 1080p and 3Mbps for 720p.
According to
https://www.peeringdb.com/asn/328045
MultiChoce have 4 x 100Gbps links to NAPAfrica.
I assume that they stream from their offices via these links.
This will allow them to steam about 80,000 x 1080p streams or 136,000 x 720p streams.
If they streamed from teraco as you suggested, this limit would be removed.

DSTV Now uses Akamai to stream afaik. I cant possibly imagine that they would ever have a shortage of bandwidth.

Irrelevant. The product was designed to cater for multiple streams across multiple devices per account, the paying subscriber gets to decide who watches on their tab and they all have a valid right to complain about crap service.

i'm a customer that prefers to watch on his laptop in bed, now what?

Than you could complain, you're paying for the service.

But his son watching oh his tablet in the other room is not allowed to complain even though he's using the service legally...

To be fair, I have not had a single problem with streaming the games on DSTV now (10Mbps Fibre - Vodacom)

Bandwidth is cheap.
A system capable of utilising that bandwidth isn't.

I have architected many video streaming systems used worldwide for realtime broadcast (with multi angle) with metadata injection and synchronization with external data feeds.

These run 24x7 without hiccup by hundreds of thousands of concurrent people on all sorts of devices with all sorts of bandwidth and latency.

Its really not difficult and well documented on how to do correctly from various companies.

Not difficult for an expert who has architected many video streaming systems at least :p

Go and volunteer your services to multichoice so that the people paying a ridiculous amount of money each month can at least get some rugby with all their repeats.

I'll probably be watching the final weekend's rugby on Espn+. I'll be one less headache for Dstv to worry about.
