DStv Now explains low-quality RWC streams

Except if you are on Seacom ...

They still selectively peer with what looks like large transit providers like Liquid Telecom and Internet Solutions. ISPs that use these transit providers should still peer locally with Seacom. It's an extra expense for ISPs but most already have that in place.

Example of Afrihost. Before the de peering after hop 5 it would go to seacom.ixp.joburg but now since Afrihost got removed Afrihost now hands the trafic over to Liquid Telecom which is their transit provider and Liquid still peers with Seacom. So this basically just caused some extra utilization on their transit links where before it would not cost them any transit.

Q. Why does DStv shift the blame when their glorious amazing systems dont work properly?

A. Because we sit in an Ivory tower and are beyond reproach. We charge what we want and its tough siht.
eish

The real explanation is simple : they were thoroughly unprepared. Their user base is tiny by world standards

The Cricket stream(South Africa vs India) quality was good, to bad the action on the field sucked. I watched the South Africa vs Italy and South Africa vs Canada games and the stream quality poor in video and audio.

Well Netflix has been giving ISPs devices to deploy within their network. Maybe DStv should do the same -- that way they won't saturate the peering links.

It is a shame NAPAfrica doesn't provide weekly traffic graphs anymore. It would have been great to see if the traffic did spike...

I have a 1GB symmetric fiber, with zero shaping or cap. My DSTV looks like Lego blocks.

Must be something very special about Africa that nothing there works, that somehow the rest of the world has gotten right for years.

Yeah and why is that a problem? Multichoice has plenty of resources available to provide a streaming service which is a fraction of the size of what Youtube delivers for a boxing match between two Youtube creators.

Yup, people need to realise that they are competing on a global level. This "local is lekker" **** no longer cuts it.

If you're in the streaming business, you should be up to par with everyone else in the world.

Soon they will complain that people are comparing them to YouTube Live and/or Sky Live and then they will run to ICASA so that those services can be more strictly regulated.
The way they did with Netflix..............................................

It is called Greed, and African Incompetence ... , the one feeds the other

How many of the users complaining are actual subscribers? Not using their parents account for DSTV Now, or a friends or so on? Perhaps this is why the DSTV Now stream wasn't as reliable? Perhaps those that are using someone elses account should moan at those that are paying and they should log the queries?

Lame excuse.... Then tell me why I am able to stream the same game flawlessly on draculastream, yet on DSTV now it buffers constantly?

How many decades do you want to log queries for, with less than zero expectations of anything being done. This is DSTV, in Africa , a very special breed.

It's more along the lines of why would DSTV support people who aren't paying?

Lol I had a good pirate stream. How can some random Russian betting site stream the rugby properly in HD but dstv can't.
