DStv Premium users to lose streaming service

The pay TV operator went on to confirm that just paying for PVR access also won’t be enough – subscribers must have an actual PVR-capable decoder linked to their account.

“Each decoder has a smartcard number and if the decoder is active, it will be linked to the customer’s account.”

So now you cannot just borrow you FIL's password that he doesn't use anyway, because he could not be bothered with all this HD and PVR stuff.

Great plan multichoice. Because streaming is the future you cannot make it easier for people to use. Fark the "progress" and "innovation" and "development" rubbish!

I believe this is core to all the latest strategies.......and im damn sure they are loading faulty software on older decoders too to force people to convert. My parents PVR came up with an error "faulty hard drive", after trying many things we just left it plugged in and faulty......then a month later it miraculously came back to working order. A week later it stopped pushing 12v to the remote eye. The support guy reckons the decoder is faulty and needs to be replaced. Cue the marketing crap for the Explorer. We chose to leave it plugged in and faulty. A week later it once again miraculously repaired itself.

Now a month on and the same sequence of faults are happening on my decoder!..

Coincidence?....I think not!

Time to upgrade.

You'd think at the price they charge subscribers should get more instead of less services

i'm intrigued as to how you can be on the premium package without pvr access? do you have a pvr decoder without the functionality enabled?

Single view HD decoder at Kalahari on special (last time I checked) for +-R435, is one way. You can even have a 10 year old SD decoder ;)

What does "PVR" stand for anyway, Prohibitive Video Robber? The good shows have a time limit, which just defeats the purpose. And if you want to rent movies you still have to pay the monthly subscription besides the rental fee. And you're not going to be recording the US Opens or a test match, because there won't be any space left. What does any of this have to do with streaming to your iPad. I though digital convergence was going to make these cheaper. What a joke!

This is a new low for South Africans that haven't switched to any of the online offerings yet. The price of uncapped is not really something ISPs use to attract those customers. They might want to consider doing some research into the feasibility of offering more attractive uncapped data bundles to catch the fed up DSTV subscribers.

I had the same thought. I had to restart my old decoder sometimes up to 3 times a day. They just wait until the wife wants to change to 7de laan and then... I bought a new R500 decoder and the problem was solved.

Bwahahahaha! I was waiting for these dstv scumtards to pull this stunt.

Not going to work. You cannot add the PVR access fee if you do not have a PVR. I've tried.

milomak was wondering how someone can have premium Dstv without PVR.

This effing sucks! Now I can't watch sport!
