DStv Premium users to lose streaming service

nail... coffin... dstv...

I started long ago with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, BBC, iTV, 4od and it works perfectly. and for a good deal less than I used to pay DSTV.

You would be very surprised by the numbers I reckon. Almost everyone I know who had an old PVR now has an Explora.

Not in the slightest.... your solution works if you are technologically able, and don't mind a bit of messing around. Lots of people like the simplicity of DSTV, it just works once you've plugged it in.

They force me to drink a lot. And then accuse me of alholism later on. It keeps the blood flowing in my head and probably delays on the onset. Paranoia is good.

K, I know it's not as simple plug it in, but I have helped a couple of people already and really setting up appleTV is around the same PT.

just substitute the satellite installer for the techy setting up your ADSL and the wireless on the appleTV?

I believe this is core to all the latest strategies.......and im damn sure they are loading faulty software on older decoders too to force people to convert. My parents PVR came up with an error "faulty hard drive", after trying many things we just left it plugged in and faulty......then a month later it miraculously came back to working order. A week later it stopped pushing 12v to the remote eye. The support guy reckons the decoder is faulty and needs to be replaced. Cue the marketing crap for the Explorer. We chose to leave it plugged in and faulty. A week later it once again miraculously repaired itself.

Now a month on and the same sequence of faults are happening on my decoder!..

Coincidence?....I think not!

The only thing I hate about the otherwise fantastic DSTV Now app is that it won't stream if your decoder is off, which means you can't watch sport during load shedding.

Its about ease of use....

I have all the streaming solutions setup, and I use them... but DSTV is just 1000x easier. I turn on the TV, change the channel and there is the sport with decent commentary and all that.
 
I got myself a decoder for the rugby world cup. Expect to see a lot of second hand decoders once it is finished.

Confused as how this change prevents this though? The account holder needs a PVR but how does this stop them from giving somebody else access to the online services?

It doesn't. But it does mean that if you do so, you have to have paid for the privilege. You pay either R80 per month, or R406 per month depending on how you look at it.
