They weren't being very truthful then, for the last 7 years or so it's been the reduced rate. They can get 3 friends or family the reduced rate as well.

+1 Nothing elsewhere gets close to it. I know many people overseas, non SAs as well and they even say there is nothing like that , not even in the US. Unless you can get sport some other way, its DSTV.

Carefull, your going to pay for that time that its still on. They're sly. Take about 2 weeks to cut and you still R300 due.

In the UK Sky is 22 pounds, it is clear we are getting exploited
 
58.99 for an uncapped broadband package - 15mb - with Bt Sport and Sky Sports added ....... think that's 111 channels. Will be taking advantage of that when I'm over there any day over this dstv shyte.

I don't think that will be a comprehensive package. Sky Sports alone is £27.50. Basic TV is £22. That only leaves £9.49, which I assume is enough for basic internet considering that it's a bundle promo. Sky is well known for discounting your subscription initially too, so your sub might increase eventually. This is assuming you're even going through Sky.

There's also the fact that the UK is a first world country to consider. They should offer much better value than they do. We can watch all Premier League games, whereas by law many cannot be shown in the UK due to conflicts with lower leagues. We get special events like boxing and Olympics without additional fees. We can stream everything through a browser if we prefer etc. It's not bad value at all considering how expensive sport is in pretty much all countries. As for internet, the UK is pretty small and has a miniscule fibre footprint and slow fibre speeds.

I have a 100Mbps fibre connection and can watch all the sport I want - 99% of UK residents don't have that. Sure, the cost is a bit higher, but not by all that much and we're all the way down in SA. It's a pretty good deal all things considered.

A good amount of those channels are +1 and+2 channels. It's the same channel running one and 2 hours behind. If you think DSTV has repeats wait till you watch Sky and especially Dave.

99.99% South African residents don't have 100Mbps fibre either. Sky is a pretty good deal all things considered though... Mainly because internet access is included. Here a decent 10Mbps ADSL uncapped package will easily set you back 1K which you will need if you want to take advantage of the full Catch Up catalogue, it's even more for those who have to rely on a WISP. So that's about 1K on top of your already inflated DStv premium bouquet.

You could get by with a relatively small capped account on Crystal Web, as their accounts are uncapped from midnight to 6pm every day. My household does 1+TB every month perfectly fine on a 500GB CW account, and that amount is going to increase now that we're on fibre. And the quality of DSTV streaming is not data heavy at all.

SA has amazing fibre penetration all things considered. ISPs said a few years ago that it would take much longer for the ball to start rolling, yet we're well underway. I had fibre at my previous address and it's now reached my current address too. And I wasn't saying that our penetration is better than the UK. They're a small first country and also have abysmal coverage but with poor fibre speeds on top of that, meaning the grass isn't greener there in that respect. Sky will charge quite a bit if you want their premium fibre offerings.

Also keep in mind that not everything is broadcast. If you want to watch SA rugby or cricket, you may or may not be in luck. And many events are pay-per-view.

We may not like to admit it, but DSTV's sports package is probably as good as it gets anywhere in the world if you're not an American and don't really care about their sports...

I challenge DSTV to give back to the community and say : Pensioners we hear you ! Your Subscription will be 50% of the premium charge...... And 50% on premium is still far too expensive for any pensioner. Let all pensioners be payable of R250 per month for premium ! What do you say to that DSTV ?!:sick::wtf:

Where are DSTV pay-per-view events? Don't see any mention on DSTV's website. It's been a long time since I noticed channels being unavailable online - even the once-problematic F1 has been streaming for a while now. Maybe it's a bigger issue with the mobile apps.

I don't think it would be reasonable for us to expect DSTV to offer NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB etc. when the rights must be pretty expensive and most South Africans couldn't care less about such sports. Not to mention the games will likely only be live in the dead of night for us, so whatever is shown during normal hours will all be replays. That said, I have seen American sports on DSTV. I wonder what happened to all that.

Many have the same view WRT European soccer and tennis, etc, but we can't have cricket and rugby without those.

I cancelled because of that.

I only want SS1 and SS2 in HD without a PVR, nothing else.

Will pay R200 for that.
