Many have the same view WRT European soccer and tennis, etc, but we can't have cricket and rugby without those.

I cancelled because of that.

Soccer is the most popular sport in SA, and the Premier League is literally the premier league for most soccer fans around the world. SA has a massive number of fans who support Premier League teams. The Spanish league is licensed so that people can watch Barcelona and Real Madrid, two teams with a staggering international following too.

Tennis is very popular too in SA. As is F1 and golf. These are all sports that are extremely relevant to South African interests, so Supersport provides them.

How many people do you know in SA who support American football, ice hockey, baseball etc? For most people that number is zero.

Where are DSTV pay-per-view events? Don't see any mention on DSTV's website. It's been a long time since I noticed channels being unavailable online - even the once-problematic F1 has been streaming for a while now. Maybe it's a bigger issue with the mobile apps.

I don't think it would be reasonable for us to expect DSTV to offer NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB etc. when the rights must be pretty expensive and most South Africans couldn't care less about such sports. Not to mention the games will likely only be live in the dead of night for us, so whatever is shown during normal hours will all be replays. That said, I have seen American sports on DSTV. I wonder what happened to all that.

Also keep in mind that not everything is broadcast. If you want to watch SA rugby or cricket, you may or may not be in luck. And many events are pay-per-view.

Supersport is probably the best sports package in the world yeah. I'll give them that.

Doesn't just apply to SA though, it applies to pretty much every country outside the US (and maybe some countries where basketball etc. is sort of popular). Hence why I said that DSTV's sports package is as good as it gets anywhere in the world if you're not an American. They show every bilateral cricket match between every test playing nation, and the same with rugby. I'm not aware of any Commonwealth broadcaster that does that...

2. Have a Movie package - customer can choose his/her package !
3. Have a Series package - customer can choose his/her package !
4. Have a lifestyle/news/documentary package - customer can choose his/her package !
5. And for the Kideos - see no.2 option ( This gets included in the Package) !

Problem Solved ! But DSTV you know this and yet do absolutely nothing to keep your subscribers happy and subscribed ! People are prepared to pay subscriptions ( Provided they are to their satisfaction - not yours ! And that there is value for money)

I agree, and I said as much previously in this thread. For our region, we probably do have the best sports package on Earth. It's only poor value if you're not into sports or only one specific sport.

Nope. I paid for NTV.mx once for a little bit and it has all the UK channels. It was infuriating how they didn't provide coverage for random stuff. Usually Premier League due to not being allowed to show games during Championship games, but there was other stuff as well, including rugby and cricket.

My step-dad once played golf at a charity event with an exec from Multichoice. He didn't waste the opportunity to rib the guy about their prices and long story short, DSTV is basically Supersport with sprinkles on top. Simple as that. I don't think they could afford to offer a sports-free package.

While I'd love a sport only package because it is the only reason for me having DStv, no broadcaster is going to offer their sport package separately. You will have to sign up for one of their other packages and add on the sport.

Licorice all sorts I was aware of that, but think of it this way, why loose thousands of customers ( who love sport, but hate all the other crap on their premier subs) who eventually cancel their subscription because of not been given the opportunity to select their own channels. This can be done, but DSTV says it can't? Do away with packages and implement channels ! My sport channels that i watch constantly is SS1/2/3 and maybe 5 and 7 depending on life soccer matches. but mostly SS1/2/3 the other sports channels are really a waste for me. What I am trying to say is: DSTV to have several packages with several amounts of (your choice of channels) that you can subscribe to, it's that simple. In other words if I want a personal package for myself: SS1/2/3 , BBCE / Discovery / BBC News/ CNN news/ Movies 1 / Movies 2/ Trace / Food / Lifestyle / etc etc then charge me per channel, and not per package, because half of the package or maybe 70% of a package i won't even bother viewing. So basically, almost a pay per view type of scenario.
I am sure most existing and even new subscribers will love an option like that. The technology is there, USE IT . The Xplora is an awesome device, tweak it and it can and will work.

Disagree, Sky Ports has pretty much all the rugby and cricket that I want. And that is what was under discussion, not soccer.

The problem with cutting ties with DStv for most South Africans is the lack of access to most of the local content they love so much.

Even if they moved to streaming services like Showmax, where would they watch Idols, Date My Family or Our Perfect Wedding? The shows that are always trending on social media.

Whether or not these local programmes are good is up to personal choice of course, but it seems to be a choice for lots of people. So DStv is the only way to go.

Ok, so they don't have SA Curry Cup, but that is just too bad.

They do show Currie Cup, although not all the games, since they're on the Red Button on the channels much of the time.

And Sky F1 is something we don't get legally here in any shape, legally. People can get F1 here on DStv, but the watered down public broadcaster's feed, which is not nearly the same.

No, I'm here in SA. I subscribe to NowTV's entertainment package and I can add-on movies/sports when necessary.

I challenge DSTV to give back to the community and say : Pensioners we hear you ! Your Subscription will be 50% of the premium charge...... And 50% on premium is still far too expensive for any pensioner. Let all pensioners be payable of R250 per month for premium ! What do you say to that DSTV ?!:wtf:
