DStv price increases announced

I do not see myself getting DSTV for my flat once I have a proper job...

I am shocked at the prices... I remember back in 2007 when dad got DSTV compact, it was R199 a month.... now its R319!! :wtf: and the content has not improved...

Jumped off this ship a month ago, downgraded from premium right down to that R29 easyview thing just so i can watch news here and there without fiddling with an analogue antenna. Online is where the party is now. No regrets. Hell i can even watch enca online and that's all i really ever watched when i had premium

Are these guys still in business?

I cancelled my DSTV month ago.
I'm much happier with Netflix, Hulu and Vudu.

strange to see them increasing pricing, in light of increased competition... they must be very sure of their dominance. arrogance to see how far they can push the loyalists?
still, like fin minister increasing the burden on the working class tax payer... and expecting the economy to grow... what are you guys smoking?

R699 a month isn't so bad. You're getting 24 hours a day TV with nearly a hundred watchable channels. Not to mention all the sport.

Only watch SS1 and SS2.

Couldn`t care about the rest.

So that makes it R400 per channel,no ways am I paying that.

Well I cancelled my DStv and happy to announce that I am on international subscriptions, which should not be named ;)

Regarding sport, well that gives me a reason to social a bit more with a beer in the hand at a friends place or at a pub...

I have recently cancelled my DSTV and will never re-subscribe. Got myself a Rasberry Pi 2 and signed up with Offside Streams. I am able to stream most of UK channels such as Sky Sports and Sky movies etc... (i think there are over 60 channels available and more being added as we speak). I use a 4MB ADSL line with 20gig cap which costs me about R350pm, and my subscription to offside streams is R190pm, giving a total spend of around R540 per month - for internet and entertainment that is. I only subscribed to DSTV to watch the European football, and the occasional cricket match. The streams are of superb quality and there is no lag at all. Even when i was on a 2MB line there was no lag.

DSTV prices are exorbitant and most of the channels are redundant in my opinion.

And what do you do when Offside Streams is closed down for being illegal (which it seems to be given that I doubt Sky or BBC have given them legal permission to rebroadcast their streams)

For 4 channels, F1, and movies. It's ridiculous. Let us choose our own packages.

question:
If DSTV is trying to stay a thing in south africa with the rise of netflix vpn, VIDI and other VOD systems, how is a price rise a good idea?
seriously, they couldn't have missed the ball harder!

Except for live sport, satellite technology is now seriously a thing of the past.

Who wants to watch movies / series / etc at the same time as everybody else.

And some cludgy catch-up box is not the solution, I twice lost a whole hard disk full of stuff because my PVR decoder flaked out.

And life is too short for recorded sport.

So I just want one or two sport channels, and am not going to pay R800pm for that.
