DSTV Rant Thread...

don't they also keep increasing the sub price every year or is it every 2 yrs ??

we also have to remember that they show what is most popular. my mother is currently in the states for the past 14 months and she says she'd give anything to have DSTV back. most of their 5 million and 1 channels are rubbish z grade stuff, same with UK tv. we are getting the most popular shows *and we're not the only ones who have to put up with constant reruns* but quality on the whole has gone down in most places.

I was doing some research a couple of months ago and for every 1000 movies produced, maybe 30 are watchable with 10 being really good/excellent in their various genres, hollywood is just spewing garbage *more so than before* which mostly goes straight to DVD *regarding movies* and then ends up as fillers for various tv station ie. they feature 1 good movie a week, advertise the hell out of it and put on either really old stuff *not complaining here, if its an oldie but a great one, I'm all for it* or stuff that seems similar to ETVs late night which is mostly pure junk

lol, can't remember who mentioned Zone Reality but grief !! lol, I think before ZR hijacked the shows, ETV was the prime buyer for movies of the 'I can't even put a grade on this' genre

And I wouldn't count on Discovery been around for too much longer either (or any other half decent channel that costs monochoice more than a couple of bucks for that matter).

Ja they will just clone more series, movie magic and supersport channels aka : Go, ActionX etc. Rofl

This makes no sense considering that the best shows on DSTV are from the US and UK. We get a lot of old rubbish on dstv. For example, probably the most pop police drama of all time on BBC, The Bill, has been running since 1984 and SA is watching episodes from 2002ish with no hope of catching up since we only get it once a week. I have bought some seasons on dvd and tossed DSTV.

...It's at that stage when DSTV should realise they need to kick BBC's ass or scrap them and buy some decent channels now!

Why, it's not the BBC's fault, DSTV is still repeating season 4 or 6 or whatever while the BBC is busy showing season 12 I think.

DSTV doesn't want to pay for the newer things and is milking every cent from it's customers repeating old shows.

What does DSTV have in common with pelicans?

They can both shove their bills up their ass...

Anybody else here getting annoyed with that "The Coconuts" advert? I cant take the bloody thing and its long aswell.

Documentaries:
BBCK - no new Top Gears at all - they're now all repeats.
DISC - No new Mythbusters at all - again, all repeats. Time Warp is vaguely interesting for a few minutes but one can only keep a crowd entertained with a slo-mo for so long before it becomes boring. No new Universe shows. And even though I don't really watch them, the motor and chopper shows appear to all be repeats. Brainiacs are all repeats. And in fact this channel is showing repeats of shows that have been repeating consistently for over a year now.
HIST - repeating all old episodes now. Haven't seen anything new in ages there.
NATGEO - all repeats apart from the odd wildlife show. The one I watched quite often was Earth Investigated but those are now all repeats of the intial repeats that I began watching.

All those documentaries are quite complicated you know. Watching Earth Investigated with snippets of Hawking or Barbarians X a few times is necessary for most people to grasp the knowledge transmitted and actually remember more than 1-2 facts per show. Keep on watching those repeats,
DStv may make a historian and astrophysicist out of you yet!

:p
Lol - and then there's our favourite Deadliest catch (now in season X)... man, they'll make me a crab catching sea dawg who can vloek the wallpaper off a wall yet... *yawn*

I've said this before, and I'm going to say it again - I feel totally liberated since kicking DSTV into touch... and so far I can't find a reason to go back...

Our DSTV has been more up than down since yesterday....:(

CT CBD. Anyone else having similar issues?

Isn't that usually a good thing?

LOL. Krikey moses. :p

You could argue that my ridiculous typo was actually quite apt given the garbage and reruns to which we are subjected. :p

But what I actually meant to say was it has been more DOWN than UP :o

The source of my signal interference was a construction crane...Seems like on the weekend the driver/operator parks the crane in a certain position until Monday. Now normally cranes move with the wind, but I' in a relatively wind free area when there might be a gale pumping two blocks away so the crane remains parked and blocks my signal. :(

Put a note under his windscreen wiper.

Too few repeats, too much to watch and subs are too low.

DSTV is getting boring. I thought that it may just be me and one tends to take things for granted after a while. On this note cancel your DSTV subscription and watch SABC 1, 2, 3 and e-tv. I guarantee you that you will never complain about DSTV ever again.
