Wtf does optional mean for dolby vision

Also no dolby atmos

Usually OTT customers can choose to include these or not. Maybe because there is a license fee to Dolby? Would like someone to clear that up. Same as with Dolby HD codecs needing to be paid for. Will be interesting to see how much we can tinker with the Streama box.

We waiting for official specifications. Just what I found based on the chip mentioned in the article. Realtek 1319 referred to as RTD1319 online.

There is also some hardware required for Dolby Vision - an extra chip embedded during manufacturing, as well as the licensing fee.

And yup - optional is for operators that purchase the box.

No need to support them. Get something cheaper. Hell, I spent more on a Micro PC anyways and it works far better than this.
My mother's little Android box works exceptionally well and cost R1400!

What does the Shield have? 3GB?

So 2GB is absolutely horrid - but 3GB is super fantastic? Where is the middle ground?

Also have you used this OS yourself and seen how efficient (or not) it is?

Otherwise, tough to drop a statement like that without even knowing

Not sure why you are getting defensive about it. Maybe your MC shares are taking a knock.

My point was simply that there was a properly long lead time for the device. You would think perhaps a bit more ponies would have been good.

It is a TV Box so high end architecture is not required, was a simple observation of the spec sheet.

No need to overanalyze or read too much into my 1 liner.

You would see post #4 raises the same point. I hardly doubt 2gb is a deal breaker all things considered.

Being a user of many many media boxes and streaming devices over the years… the only way I could really stop buying more devices (as my current one I had was always lacking in something or not up to the task, or crappy remote etc…) was to go for the best. Get yourself an Nvidia Shield TV. Thank me later.

It’s a tech forum - you need to get used to people talking about tech. Otherwise not the forum for you?

You did say ‘only 2GB …’ and the implication was that 2GB was far too low.

And we have super high end phones running on minimal RAM with the reason being optimisation.

Without having used the box, there is no telling if 2GB is enough.

Again, this is a tech forum where (generally) likeminded people discuss tech
