DStv streaming "total shambles" after app update

DStv rolled out an update for its streaming app on Wednesday, 13 October 2021, and several customers have taken to social media and the Google Play store to voice their frustrations with the changes.

The update features a completely revamped app but has made it more difficult to stream, even on high-bandwidth fibre connections, and several posts suggest DStv's troubleshooting steps don't help.
 
Always had issues with the app until recently, but it always bombs out at some point.

This weekend via the browser it streamed live tv fine but catching up on a series was terrible.

on a 20mb fibre line.

lol when I searched for the same series on ShowMax it said coming soon even though the whole season was on DSTV Now
 
You'd think the programmer would test the changes in a proper controlled environment before unleashing his bad workmanship on his paying customers!!
But hey.. That's Africa for you..
 
This was not an incremental release - looks like they threw out everything and rewrote the app with some new shiny du jour framework, or at least stuck it on top of the old one. Maybe someone on this forum knows what this was.

Evidently not enough testing done on real-world performance. Also question the testing for UI usability - for example gone is the excepted behaviour of still showing the previous item when you move to the next one, both on horizontal and vertical lists.
 
No issues so far with Apple TV Dstv Now.

The layout looks mostly the same as the new layout on other platforms.

That's because Showmax was developed by an overseas team.
 
I don't use the app often so when I read this article I tried it out. All seems fine on the iphone, watched enca for a bit. I don't actually notice any changes either.
 
I've experienced an issue with casting to Android TV (not Chromecast) for the past few months. The stream would play for exactly 60 seconds and then cut out. I suspect its some sort of auth timeout where the TV cannot refresh credentials?
 
This is one of the reasons why Netflix is more popular than either DSTV or Showmax.
Netflix just works, even on rooted or non Google-certified devices.
 
Awesome customer support ... really, we expect better, but hey, this is Multi-choice DSTV.

Netflix, is great, rotate between Disney+, Apple TV +, etc.

Just waiting for BritBox to get their Android App done, then I can add them to the rotation list as well.
 
Change title to "dstv streaming is ****" while we are quoting people for headlines :)

Its idiotic that you can't change to a channel until the TV guide shows up for that channel, which in some cases never shows up or takes anywhere from 1 second to 60 seconds.
