DStv streaming outside SA prohibited

Wouldn't even bother. But Kudos to Uno for poking monochoice
 
Why do the content providers want to limit the exposure of their content? Why all this legal nonsense? Everybody gets their money in the end, so what are the reasons for fighting this so badly?

Becaue they would rather charge different prices in different regions. They can make more money that way.

What an amazing looking service! Do you use it? €14.49pm for every channel you can think of sounds too good to be true. I need to look into getting XBMC available on my TV. All I have is the WD Live TV set top box, and it doesn't have it as far as I'm aware.

I'm not sure what you're getting at? This has nothing to do with local exclusivity deals, it has to do with international regional licensing.

While exclusivity deals impact the market in different ways, I don't blame DSTV for pursuing them; any of DSTV's competitors would snap exclusive content up in a heartbeat if they could. It's just how the game is played.

Monopoly is typically comunistic or dictorial which SA is both. Cadres have shares in Dstv and so they will fight tooth and nail.
 
so what they're saying is, thank you for paying for the content, but if you're not in the correct country you not allowed to watch it.
its still WTF! that the services are linked to the area/country, and not the ouk paying for it!
time for everybody to drop their f'n obsession with area, and start appreciating the person who paid for the service. that includes netflix, iTunes, Playstore etc etc etc
 
I'd argue as follows "Sure, region restrictions etc makes sense if you sell the content to other networks BUT allowing existing subscribers that require a log-in mind you, to still access it from anywhere won't infringe on that surely?"

Can someone explain this to me...

I understand the root issue here is that content producers make content, which is then licensed to distributors around the globe. So accessing content through a provider not licensed for that region is the "infringement".

Why then are takealot, kalahari, etc able to sell imported dvds ? surely ster-kinekor or whoever is the local distributor and this infringes on that?
