DStv subscribers get shock Disney+ bill

Found that it was also added to my account without my request or consent after reading this article. My Jan account has been credited with: Reversal DStv Disney Plus Subscription - R112.10 even though I have not yet contacted them.

I then looked at statements for previous months and then noticed the following line items for October and November '23:
DStv Disney Plus Subscription R139
Discount -R139

Why only R112.20 and not R139 which was illegally debited to my account in the first place?

Thanks for mentioning this, I see that they added the reversal last night. R9 prorata and R130 credited for me.

Smart strategy, force 7.8 million subscribers to lose a prorata of R9 (or R26.9 in your case) for their mess up, and they've got a cool R70+ million.

Glad I got rid of these clowns years ago...still get comeback email offers, sms and even calls, but ignore all. It is way overpriced with repeats - I choose to get my entertainment and sport elsewhere - streaming is the way to go...for far less.

DSTV require me to pay 12 months in advance. Hence the next period is 1st Feb 2024 to 31st Jan 2025

My lawyer friend said that if I had Netflix via DSTV, they would easily be able to see how many times I logged on. The fact that this is "confidential information" means that they want to conceal the fact there has been an error

Lets see what reply I get from my email

This is very interesting. Can anybody else can confirm they were also charged pro-rata amounts? DStv insisting that people received full refunds.

Only prorate, if you need it contact me via PM with email address I can sent you the statements where they illegally added this to my account since October, and on my statement none descriptive subscription fees, it doesn't even say Disney+ just subscription fee R139.0.

This is when the shyte started for me already.....Notice the none descriptive sub fees....

After reading about these Dstv thieves I also discovered I have been charged for Disney+ since November. After querying it last night I am advised I do not have Disney + on my account, (was cancelled last night) but they don't seem keen to refund the stolen subscriptions. Still fighting about that.
Maybe need a class action or individual small claims court suite against them. The big shots hide behind walls of staff who are in the firing line, but they never answer for their companies crimes.

Way it goes, each time I remotely start thinking of subscribing again, they come up with **** like this - oh well - pass again ...

IMO, DSTV is the most skelm of skelms, and get away with all kinds of non-competitive and illegal stuff in the lawless SA.
There must be thousands of people not realizing they have been charged for FAKE Disney+ or other services. FAKE because if you don't know about it, you won't use it.
I won't be surprized if DSTV have like 1000 subscriptions to Disney+, which runs through a single DSTV account, then bill 9000 subscribers for it, and the 1000 will cover those that do use the service by chance. So Disney is none the wiser as they get paid for 1000 actual used subscriptions, while DSTV just pockets 8000 subscriptions.

I'm on the DSTV streaming only package for R699.
When Disney launched I subbed and I have not once paid for it. It's active and I still only pay the R699.

Not complaining, but it clearly shows their system is buggered. Oh well.

Shhh. They might be watching the forum.

I was also charged R139 for Disney+ on 31 Dec
They reversed it on 3 Jan but only for R130.03

Their WA chatbot is useless! Now waiting for their callback

Contacted my dad now to find out if they've been charged too.

I think a lot of people don't check their debit orders so DSTV hopes they will get some extra money with many people not noticing.

Hopefully this will lead to even more cancellations.

I'm guessing its more the case of Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".

Probably a system error somewhere by one of their underpaid juniors.
