DStv subscribers get shock Disney+ bill

In the 80s and 90s such would be called computer errors but these are not. It's pure disregard and disdain for paying customers. A company operating above the law. Please don't make excuses for them.

I'd still call them "computer errors" in so much as the thing has done something bad... but in my opinion much of it is due to the systems obviously being needlessly complicated and their BA's and systems designers are just useless.

Still caused by bad programming, and bad input - both human errors

100% don't disagree in the slightest.

My only vague question is how much of it is intentional, and how much of it is just because they're so fscking shyte.

Which ever way you look at it, incompetence, is incompetence - intentional or not.

Also would not put it past a useless, middle manager, needing ways to improve his departments performance "tweaking" the system, here and there.

But as I no longer have an account with them, I couldn't be bothered.

Either way, they are going to screw themselves into obsolescence.

Similar boat in terms of no longer having an account, and even when I signed up for their little Rugby streaming special I made damned sure to use a throw away email address and a Virtual Card specifically for that transaction which I cancelled right after the transaction had completed so they couldn't fsck me over later.

Only sane way to deal with them ... , if you must.

Congrats.

Were you a long term/running subscriber? Aka an old dawg.
It is the second time I cancel.
The first time I was in financial dire-straits about 15 years ago.
Then things improved financially and after about a year I was back.
My family will experience the worst of it but at least we have broadband.

I must have had 10 blocked calls from these clowns in the last 3 days

Anyone still paying this company via debit order is a moron.

No. It's Multichoice trying their luck and ignoring law, assuming such a law exists, never mind that in SA it won't be enforced. One does not bill people for services they didn't consent to. This is what this was. They didn't send an ad offering free Disney+ for 3 months and then R179.99 pm and you had to opt in, and tick the T&C checkbox and agree to being billed after 3 months for R179.99pm. It's not that their system glitched and failed to provide such a screen, it's that they intentionally billed people and as an excuse said that people were notified of these auto subscriptions. Please don't defend them. There is no computer error here.

One of my elderly parents messaged to say that they had discovered an unauthorised subscription to Disney+ 2GB per month (R59) as part of their MTN contract. It's unlikely in the extreme that they subscribed themselves, although they are still (for reasons known only to them) still DSTv subscribers. Has anyone else encountered this? I'll ask them to check their DSTv billing in any case.
