For the amount of money this company makes, it is absolutely appalling that they can't get a basic streaming service to work.

I could not agree more. This has been years and years now that their streaming has sucked. It works well one time out of ten that I try. I wonder if they'll ever get it right.

And their CEO is saying streaming is the future. Well, best go back and do your homework guys.

So I just had this had this chat with a support agent. He was so clueless, I couldn't help but be obnoxious as he was not willing to assist at all. Their lowest streaming setting is 360p:

Hi, my name is Qiniso. Welcome to live chat.

[Qiniso] Hi .
[Me] Are there any plans to fix the streaming issues on your website?
[Qiniso] Please logout, clear your cache and browsing history and log back in using Google Chrome.
[Me] I've done that already
[Me] I've also tried DSTV now
[Me] Its also ridiculous to ask your clients to clear their browsing history, people make use of that daily
[Qiniso] Please check your internet speed on this link: www.speedtest.net
[Me] 20meg
[Qiniso] Please advise on the download and upload speed.
[Me] 16meg download, 1.5meg upload
[Me] Please explain how upload speed has an impact on streaming?
[Qiniso] The minimum upload speed requirement to watch content is 3.5mbps.
[Me] Nonsense, you joking right?
[Me] So in order to watch content on your site, you have to have a 40meg line?
[Qiniso] Yes sir.
[Me] HAHAHAHAHA
[Me] This made my day
[Me] Can you let me speak to a support agent that actually knows what he is talking about please?
[Qiniso] I am an agent that can assist you.
[Qiniso] Those are the requirements. You can stream content using the DStv Now App on your smartphone.
[Me] Lol, cool. Thanks Qiniso. I'll post this on social media just to check the comments .
[Qiniso]
If that’s all for today, please take a few seconds to complete the survey after closing the chat window.

Sadly I don't have either, but I wish I could. Its ridiculous.

Last week on live chat they told me they are upgrading their servers. I was watching the Liverpool game and asked them how long it would take, they said I should try again in two hours. I should have asked if they offer PVR for streaming

Since they got rid of Flash, the streaming has been up to shyte. The android app works fine, not normal streaming. Might have to install Remix OS to use the Android app on my pc.

Can someone confirm this? 3 to 3.5Mbps upload is just about right for shared streaming in 720hd and the old .264 codec but are they really employing this (dare I say) trick? As far as I know only SchönerFersehen is doing that. And yes, it works extremely well regardless of the number of viewers. Best IP Multicast protocol 'invention' EVER.
Very sneaky from Multichoice though. Now they basically ensure that mostly people using cellphones can use their service :( Well, after all it is ment as an addon service for subscribers who are not home. Unless you have a DSL line (or very fast upload), you are pretty much .....

I suspect the agent had no idea what it was talking about.

Didn't know upload speed was a factor in streaming. In any case, you can stream in 360p, which would halve that upload speed.

Thought I would check with them again.

Hi, my name is Brian. Welcome to live chat.

[Me] Hi,
[Brian] hi there
[Me] Can you tell me what the minimum line speed you need to have is to stream on Supersport?
[Brian] anything over 4mbs should be fine
[Me] Thanks
[Me] I've been having streaming issues with SS3 for the last month on the site. Is DSTV addressing these issues i.e breaking connection, endless buffering etc
[Brian] we are migrating systems at the moment
[Brian] the site should be up by the end of the week
[Me] Great, looking forward to it. Thanks
[Brian] ok cook
[Brian] cool
[Me] Enjoy your day

Hmmm. Let's see if anything improves. I really wish they were more transparent with the issues they are facing.

Hi,

I have been having the same issue over a extended period of time now, it all started when DSTV started promoting there DSTV now app, which between me and the internet is also not working, I have had countless problems with Supersport streaming as well as DSTV now.

I hoped that someone would actually do something regarding this issue, but to no surprise nothing has been done.
I am glad you have posted this, it is the most recent complaint I could find, ad hope that they do something about this soon.

There is no excuse for line speed, most people have uncapped Fiber lines now anyway, myself with a 10mb line speed uncapped is for sure not the problem. I think they do not have the answers and looking to blame it on the most logical problem, which is becoming less and less believable with the rapid change in today`s technology.

I am quite over the whole system and have found alternative ways of viewing the life content that I want to watch, it is working better than the DSTV live streaming has ever.

They need to take a good hard look at fixing this problem, soon they can and will be replaced.

Which universe are you posting from exactly?

(Just a friendly tip from one forumite to another, if that username of yours is indeed your real email address, I would suggest you change it quick smart.)

Edit: I agree with the rest of your post BTW.

I see Supersport have removed all the visitors posts...

https://www.facebook.com/supersport/

Not sure why people post there though because nobody ever responds.

I'm stuck with Cricfree for my streaming - can't remember when Supersport or DSTV Now actually worked.

Pathetic amateurs.
