LOL! I had to watch a pirate F1 stream on my tablet because Supersport wasn't working. Quality was craptacular, but at least I caught the gist of it.

Don't know how they can charge so much for a service with broken valueadds.
 
Tried to watch the Motogp as well but couldn't even connect. SS app kept wanting me to sign in and then just kept giving me errors when I enter my username and password.

I got that too, and when it did finally connect it was a mess of buffering, shifting forward and back constantly, and horrible quality.

I called the call centre yesterday. Utterly useless. " No" problems detected their side.
 
Of course they won't detect any problems on their side. Only, so many people with different devices / methods of connecting to the Internet, can't all have problems on "their" side. Only thing to do is to hammer them on social media and report the crap we've been having with the app.

I wonder what's going on in their forums. cant just be us getting pissed off...
 
This weekend was a shambolic nightmare for streaming. Nothing worked! The F1 qualifying on Saturday afternoon was fine and then all hell broke loose after that. I can't believe this isn't something they can fix permanently though. Do you guys who stream on overseas sports platforms (the names elude me now. NTV or something?) have similar issues with their feeds?

Gladly. Their fb page doesn't seem to allow posting messages. I've placed a 1-star review in the Apple appstore on the current version of the iOS app and managed to get someone from DSTV customer care to respond to a tweet I send last night.

I might latch onto hellopeter as well.

Will keep you posted.
 
Suggest those that are having hassles do some diagnostics ( start with a simple trace route) and post the results to the affected sites? ( Supersport, dstvnow and dstv). You may be very surprised at what you see.

Yes I know many ISPs these days block SMTP, but you do still get some results.

I would be very interested to see comparison trace routes via, ADSL, Vodacom, Cell C etc.

BTW, as a non Premium subscriber to DSTV, I have long ago stopped worrying about all the nonsense DSTV and Supersport expose their customers to ... hence my interest is purely academic.

Everything is back to normal on my side. By Sunday evening everything was back up again. FYI though, traceroute showed up perfectly normal, which confused the crap out of me to the point where I thought it was a firewall issue. After trying 4 different PCs and even my phone over 3G to no avail, I could safely conclude that the problem wasn't on my side.

My network is fine. Whether I tried streaming over ADSL or 4G, the result was the same.

I received a reply on the tweet I sent to DSTV customer care; The gist of it is "The issue was most probably caused by the number of users streaming the same content but we suggest that you contact the Live Chat team on goo.gl/vHEkH should it happen again."

Whether this is fact or the opinion of one social media admin, it confirms my suspicion that the issue doesn't sit with me or you or any other person, but rather with SS and their current insufficient capacity and inability to serve the needs of their customers wanting to stream during major events.

+1. Therein lies the root cause IMHO.
 
It seems that SS and MC does not really care about their users who stream. It seems that the stream disappears or become very bad with all big sporting events

Yip, exactly what I thought too. Had the same issue on Sat trying to watch the rugby. Also the SA vs Windies game the week before.

Mmmmmm currently the IPL stream works 100% on my iPhone, but through Safari on my Mac it doesn't want to work? Website just say "data could not be loaded, please try refreshing the page"
 
The streaming have degraded. Not even proper HD anymore and most big rugby games I can't stream anything.
