DStv will have a stand-alone streaming service

I predict that in a few days there will be an article saying "No, we can't do it, because...". Just like how they were thinking about a sports only package.

Tease.

The delivery method matters not if the price is the same.

It IS misleading. You can re-word it to "DStv will have a stand-alone streaming service - in the future"

Them saying "DSTV will have a stand-alone streaming service" means they are going to do it in the future. Might be worth it for you to get DSTV so you can watch Mindset Learn and learn some grammar.

Now for the more interesting part:

What channels will they put on it. Would they have the balls to put supersport on it? Will they offer it in HD? Will DSTV finally support kodi?

Tune in for DSTV's next reveal - only on channel MyBB. :p

I am even prepared to got the pay per view route.

Supersport standalone package here to stay wishful thinking:)
Also: Fibre-to-the-home will need to come to many more homes to allow for smooth live streaming. Supersport streaming works well, but I have experienced issues in the past, which still makes satellite better for live events.

If it wasn't for Supersport a large percentage of its viewers will leave. That is all of real interest at the moment.

Price or GTFO.

This is the only way they'll survive in the long run, pretty soon even our grannies will be streaming, so better hurry up DSTV.

been having this with AT&T directv now for a couple of month already ( 120 channels on streaming costing $70 a month), The non-stop repeats and all you can eat StarTrek on BBC America (go figure) put me off the service.

So back to Hulu and Netflix....

surely it has to be either a choice of streaming dstv service or normal dstv service, and not both ie paying for both. That means you pay for DSTV R900, the streaming service say another R200 as an example and your internet connection say at another R800.. That would just be madness

Surely much depends on what the content-owners say? Apart from the local SS productions, dozens of foreign content-providers and suppliers will want their own pound of flesh from any new channels Multichoice open up. I suspect it involves complicated negotiations with lots of foreign copyright holders.

Around the world, broadcasters are testing “skinny bundles” and streaming services which are unbundled from their main cable or satellite TV packages.

“The jury is still out on the success of that,” said Rayner.
Is it? I subscribe to Sky's NowTV Entertainment package and I think it's great value. I've got access to 11 live channels including Sky 1, Discovery, and NatGeo as well as a comprehensive back catalogue.
