DStv working on increasing streaming limit — but you'll need one of its devices

MultiChoice South Africa CEO Nyiko Shiburi says that DStv is working on implementing new technology in its devices that will allow for multiple streams in households with legitimate subscriptions.

DStv received fierce backlash from subscribers when it implemented a strict one-device streaming limit from 22 March 2022.

Lol. Will probably just end up being something simple, like checking for the same IP address for multiple devices in a house connecting to the same router.
Would only be a partial solution though. What if I'm away from home and want to check in on the rugby score on my phone/tablet?

"Working on"? Sounds like something that can be implemented in a couple of hours
Agreed. WTF. Although multiple IPs would potentially pose a problem. TV connected to main fibre router, sibling connected to backup LTE connection on the other side of the house etc

Okay, that's actually quite innovative.

And it would also fsck me over.

DSTV can **** right off if the "new technology" they're working on is really just scanning for MAC addresses on the same network and matching router MAC addresses to registered devices to make sure there's no account sharing going on with people outside the household.

They do not get the right to run intrusive network scans and hoard the data they collect from that.

They can implement that in their app, that is if the BBEEE type doing their app has more than 2 Blonde brain cells. On their device only, really, my Shield TV Pro, makes their device look obsolete, what a fail.

What if I'm at the office?

Two households connected on different IP addresses (different cities even) is called piracy?

Or it can mean you finally break your dstv addiction.

Could be a good thing in the long run.
Nope. I'm not going to stop watching cricket. I'll subscribe to Premium if it comes to that.

You would have to submit a sworn statement and request a special dispensation, which their BBEEE app developer will take 3 years to develop.

Besides, their is no way I am going to buy their obsolete end of life device, either it works on my Shield TV Pro, Fire TV 4K MAX, or my Xiaomi Mi 4K TV Streaming Stick, or they can keep on pissing into the wind.
